  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 449 would start but not run

Hello, interesting problem today. Rode about 35 miles with no issues (besides sliding all over the ice patches!), Bike is running fine and I stop to wait for my son on his TE 250,photo 2.JPGphoto 3.JPGphoto 4.JPGphoto 5.JPG who has lost a battle with the aforementioned ice. I hit the kill button and go to restart after sitting for 3 minutes. The bike starts and dies as soon as I release the start button. I hold the start button and it revs and I can ride it as long as I hold the start button. The main road luckily is down hill so I get back using neutral and no engine. I try the starter again and now it works fine. WTF? It appeared that the black start button was pushing out more than usual perhaps? I am not sure, has this happened to anyone else? Bad starter button? Fuel or fuel pump did not seem to be an issue.

Did it come up FAIL on your computer? I would check all your connections including your grounds. Pretty riding area, is that Silverwood lake riding area?

yeah Silverwood from the staging area on the east side of the lake. The first picture is after my son fell on a sheet of ice and hurt his wrist. I did not think to check the display, I did cycle the key off and on several times.

There is a known loop back error on the '11s which was changed in '12. Fail reads on the odometer when this happens.

I am unsure, I think it takes a hard reset. But it sounds more like a loose connection for your issue.

My TXC did similar a few times and then quit starting all together. Fuel pump relay went bad. Would run with start button pushed in and die as soon as I let off. Just throwing the out there.

UPDATE
I have been riding several times since my problem on Jan 19, even a 250 mile Ridgecrest ride with no problems. Though I know I have not resolved this problem so I am wondering will it happen again? Then my son says he will wash my bike for me since I have been paying for his sorry butt ever since he was born and especially since he has been riding:thumbsup: . Now the bike has been cleaned and it starts but will not run!
I figured this time I am looking at the E-start button! I take it apart and find water in it a little bit. The switches are pretty simple and they ohm ok! I wd40 the start and stop engine buttons. Now I check out my electrical diagrams that I downloaded and saved (they are awesome) and am looking for the Main relay that should be keeping the bike running once it is started (thanks db511 for the suggestion). There are 2 relays on the left side of the bike, one is the main relay and one is the fuel pump relay. I notice my 2 relays are upside down when compared to the pic in the manual. One of the relays has a dent and small crack in it.
After checking the manual I find there are 3 relays, all the same part number. I remove the lighting relay and snap it in for the main relay and the bike starts and runs!
Malcom Smith has the relay for 8 bucks and some change, sweet!

Nice, good to know they are still keeping parts in stock there. Perhaps since they are all the same, it's a good idea for us 449/511 riders to have a spare in the field.

Yeah I would of got 2 but I got the last one. At least we can reach behind the headlight and borrow the lighting relay.
