  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Te 449 still good????

Can anybody shed light on the real improvements made to the 449 since 2011(not as available on spec sheets). I had one then and loved it only that it was heavy and a bit much in very wet conditions.
I may be tempted back to it for reliabilty more than anything. 310 starter issues have freaked me out.

Not much, suspension settings / springs and a few items.

The 310 at least has a kick starter! I think I prefer the 449/511 but the 250/310 is real nice too.

I think there is a lighter piston and a reworked head too.
They are a very good mix for enduro and ST.
If you are looking for mostly ST go the new 310 R.

There are not many changes since 2011. ECU maps are the best change and hopefully better on the my13. There are internal engine/case changes as well as chain guides, wheels, frame color and the 2013 signal/starter controls on the te models are smaller, more compact. You can now mod a 449/511 well below the weight of a 310 with hp as high as 54 (60hp w/unlimited $). :)

Hi Tinken, thanks for your reply.
When you say you can mod the 449/511 to be less weight than the 310 where and how?

Ti exhaust + lithium battery for starters, other things can be lightened like footpegs, bars, levers, depending on model.

I don't see any way to make the 449/511 lighter than a 250/310 but don't care as I love the bike as is. I trade off all the time with a buddy with a TE310 and am fine with my 511 as is thanks. I have a 165 if i need light.

You can make either bike 10-15lbs lighter absolutely, but you can't give a 310 the torque of a 511. It's a trade off. Maybe a 300 is better suited for you, it doesn't have to be a Husky *hides from Kelly*. Haha.

I have a KTM 300 XC if I need a light setup and it has 46HP, but it doesn't have the low end torque of my 511 which I love. The 449/511's are extremely reliable, do everything bikes, especially after a few basic mods.

All bike was made with thier own characteristic, purpose and terrain, now depend on you which bike do you need 449 very comfort for a long distance enduro, stable on high speed enduro, lil bit heavy, 310 fast and light, unstable on high speed rocky terrain, now u decide which bike do you need..
