  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 449 oil change interval

ok I just bought a 2011 TE 449 with 1890 miles. I have looked at all the manuals and I can't find how often I should change the oil. I am used to Hondas that have a very specific schedule. I don't ride too aggressively, mostly fire roads and such. Any idea?

I too have a 2011 TE 449..............
Probably lots of different opinions on this topic but I will usually ride 2 days then change oil, changing the filter every other oil change. I run Mobil One 0w/40 exclusively. I ride fairly hard but nowhere near race conditions. I have used this pattern for years without an engine problem.

I've got one as well. I do ~200 miles and change the filter every time. I've been running Mobil 1 10w-40, but will be going with the 0w in one more change. I got the 10w from my Dad. Can't turn down free oil!!

I'm not Ricky racer but I do like to let it stretch its legs now and then. Congrats and enjoy your TE..

If I ride trails. A couple of rides, if mostly road, 200. Oil and filter, $12.00.
Metal floating around in my Gertrude, I don't think so....

Thanks for all the input. I looked at at the BMW site for their 450 enduro. They say every 10 hours. Since the husky motor is actually made by BMW I will go with that or something in between.

Page b.2 of the maintenance manual calls out 10 hour filter and oil changes for the 2011 449

I do the paper filter every other oil change. I have cut them apart and looked up close and really nothing in there so I think changing it every 300 miles might not be necessary. My opinion only.
Technically, I don't either, but I wash my stainless steel filter every oil change. :D
I don't trust that manual, Americans are lazy, so the Italians took all the maintenance schedules for the US and multiplied them by two.

I know the bike is built in Italy, but the engine is German but built in Taiwan. Just saying

Probably plenty of different views on this subject but I will usually drive 2 times then modify oil, modifying the narrow every other oil modify. I run Castrol One 5w/40 specifically.

What does modify mean? And modifying the narrow?
