  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 449/511 owners... Anyone heard the mysterious bang/clunk jamming sound ?

Rearwheelin

Husqvarna
Pro Class
My bike has made this clunk sound twice, its a single tap that will happen after jumping up rocky high traction step ups/ when coming down on the back wheel under throttle to an up hill....it's like a single loude tap/knock..... I am concerned with this noise because it doesn't sound normal... It happens probably due to the good amount of stressing on the swingarm I'm thinking..... I have a hunch the right side front swingarm pivot is hitting the back of the engine because frame flex.... I will check for signs of scuffing on the engine paint next time I pull swingarm off... It's made the noise twice, a single tap each time... Anyone experience this ?

Wow thats a worry !
My TE511 has not done anything like that.
In fact it has run perfectly in all regards.
SAM511

Nope.

Maybe it is simply chain slap? I can't imagine the frame being able to flex as you said as it passes through the motor.

Hey guys I went ahead and threw worst case scenario out there, the noise only happens at times when swing arm is being stressed forward / landing under power and has done it twice... Chain seems adjusted well , about 10-15mm up and down play, it only rubs my slides and doesn't touch anything else.... Has done it to me going up a steep 1st gear rock section where I caught some air and bumped when I landed and another time a third gear jump where I lost a bit of speed in the air and landed under power n she bumped... There is a fairly small gap between the engine and swingarm on the right side so I'm going to keep my eye on that, I can't imagine anything else making/feeling this noise... Bike has 3 rides and did it my first and third ride.

Think it could be the kick stand ? I don't hook it half the time and I don't remember if I had the rubber tye on it when this happens.....

I never hook my kickstand and charge through 3 foot whoops that way.... I think chain slap is more likely, these things need little slack with the concentric countershaft sprocket setup. Of course I am old and deaf so it would have to be pretty severe for me to hear anything :)

Im going to take a pic of the slack to see what you guys think , it's slacked from after the ride still..

Here some pics fella's ...... My up and down play was measured at the chain slide bolt or half way point between axle and front sprocket. After the last ride chain play measured 22mm and that's total up and down movement..... In the book it shows a strait line from O.D. edge of front and rear sprocket and chain 10 mm up from line, I'm taking that as mine being 1mm off , that is if my enturpritation of the manual is correct ... http://m1208.photobucket.com/albumview/albums/rearwheelin/Mobile Uploads/IMG_1568.jpg.html?o=3

How many Miles on the Bike? I have not heard any abnormal clunks on my 511 from suspension or linkage. When my 511 TPS was going bad the bike would Cough and POP intermittently under power, you could feel this as well.
Could be worth tearing down the rear linkage for an inspection.

I have about 200 miles on it.... There have been a couple times going threw big altitude changes where I would twist throttle and no juice , that would only last for a second then throttle would come back, that was on my second ride only though..... The bump I felt was on first and 3rd ride. I think I'm going to pull the swing arm off and check it all out and grease the linkage, I've had the swingarm off once doing a sprocket change..

Have the same issue with the throttle. Happened 4 times during the DD ride last weekend. This is after a new TPS install not long ago.

Something with the Dual Throttle to smooth out the power response. "EFI with Keihin D46 throttle body". One control the other and the TPS plays a big part of the secondary's opening. When the TPS malfunctions in a bad way, it acts like you run out of gas and pops like a honda that needs it valves adjusted! Someday I will find some documents on how that all works :) Maybe someone that works with EFI or the power modules can weigh in someday!

I figured out the noise ! Was the two aluminum motormounts next to the EFI tank that were not tight enouph and were slipping causing the "bump" ... I could see the slippage scuffs. Just wanted to bring this up again cause it happened to me the very first ride and every ride .... I finally road the bike for the 5th time on the Dusy Ershim trail and just so happens I checked motormounts and found them snug but not tight ! And what do you know ? No more "bump" :)

Can you show a picture of where these mounts are exactly? Or are they obvious when looking at the bike. Thanks
