  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Te 310 R red head or 2011 with injector and ecu mod ?

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hi,

If you have to buy one of both bikes, wich one would you prefer,a stock red head or a 2011 with Txc Ecu and 12 port injector?

Is there a big difference in power and torque?

Are both engines reliable ?

Thanks,
Jeff from Europe

They're pretty damn equal. I might lean towards the blackhead with an ignition key (and Ti values- ehhh)... but really- it would depend more on the individual bikes. Does the redhead have the upgraded starter gears?

tough, but fun choice.

If remoteness is a possibility, consider the redhead for its dead battery kickstart capability.

I have the 2011 TE310 with a PCV, it's the one that does fuel and ignition plus the 12pt injector. Stock from what I can gather the 2012 is hands down a better bike. With the upgrades I mentioned the 2011 gets pretty close but Ty at ZipTyRacing says that the 2012s head and valves allow it to produce more power. Still, my 2011 has been rock solid and reliable for about 2,000 miles. It has the upgraded starter and a Shorai battery thats 3 years old and is still kickin. Overall, if you're looking to purchase either one of those years, I'd say that it's more important to get a bike that's been well kept than which year it is.

Most owners aren't as meticulous as I am. I change the oil about every 300 + miles which is when the oil starts to get darker in color. Also be sure to check the linkage and swingarm bearings. They are avoided by most owners and will likely be in need of a change. Bought my bike with 720 miles on it from a guy that took good care of it but linkage bearings were toast. I purchased aftermarket from: Pivot Works Linkage Rebuild Kit - PWLKH-Q09-000, though the 2011 TE310 isn't listed, they are an exact match and will save a bundle over Husky parts without sacrificing performance or reliability.

Hi,

I found a 2014 "R" with only 500 miles on the clock. The bike looks good, the price is hot,it is nice and clean and still has all the road legal parts on it.

What i could find out,is that the 14' has the uprated starter gear and the "Euro spec" version comes with the nice closed cartridge forks.

I just had orange bikes the past years ( 250 and 350 Exc-f) and never had problems with them. The last days i searched a lot about issues and problems on the redhead engine, and could find a lot :-(

The biggest one for me is the oil flow issue, does the 13-14 Te 310 really need some mods to the crank to be reliable?

Thanks for your help,

Jeff

Personally, if the bikes got low miles and no other signs of abuse and the price is right I'd go for it. Most of the problems you'll read about aren't as widespread as you might think. Again, make sure you start with fresh oil, gas, clean air filter, lube all of the bearings and it should be a nice ride. Congrats on finding it

the oil flow mod is not necessary- but it does help race bikes. There is a good chance that the forks are open cartridge (there's a lot of confusion on the subject) but either way, they're great units. Uncorked, the bike has fantastic power- but a little bit less than your 350 (you're gonna hate the tranny ratios compared to the 350 too). It's a fast, flickable reliable bike that handles good and has fantastic brakes- what more could you ask?

Is the oil flow problem on all X-lite engines or only the redhead ones?

I had the 350 three years ago (2013) and sold it for a 250 Exc-f .I like the 250's handling, but in some situations i'm missing a bit of torque and power.

The 310 is a very nice bike too,and with it's extra 50cc,Kayaba Suspension with linkage it could be the right bike for me.

Like i could find out,The 14' Aussi and Euro spec bikes come with CC forks. The Us version has OC forks.

Thanks,
Jeff
