  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 310 Air Filter access...Terrible Design

Husqvarna
After coming off a Husaberg FE390 which has the worlds best air filter access. The Husky system is a joke. Can someone at Husqvarna HQ take a leaf out of Husaberg/KTM design brief and when designing your own bikes remember that air filter access is important.... not an after thought.

Yeah, it is less than desirable. But that is about the only complaint I have with my 10 310. The motor is awesome and the bike works great in the woods.

I take the side covers off when installing the filter. Then it's easy to see if it's seated correctly.

Yeh it's a bit crap! After seeing a fe390's access I was spewing haha

But as said remove seat and side covers and it's a lot easier, also lift battery out and to the side.
When refitting just check the battery connections haven't come loose or anything :)

plus 1 on that. I clean the filter every few rides so that means ive done around 50 or so changes, it is still a pain i the va jay jay

Wait to you have to change the oil (if you have a 2011/12) you think the air filter design is bad, the only thing I could think why such poor designs is the engineering department guys don't ride and do maintenance and while I'm at it whats up with the close ratio gear box?

None of it is that hard. Maybe not worlds best practice but but better than 10 or 20 years ago.
As for the close ratio box its just brilliant for single trail hard stuff. Only down side is a lack of a genuine high 6th gear

The design of the new Husaberg was so good that they decided to discontinue it!
I will agree that I like the tank and filter design better on the 390 than my 449. Husky could easily design a tank that fills from the top and drains into the lower tank. A guy I ride with has the 390 with the aftermarket tank that replaces the subframe. It appears to me that Husky could do something like that and not lose the light nimble feel. A friend of mine who is a very good rider rode the 390 and my TXC 449 back to back and said the Husky felt much lighter and nimbler.

I agree the bike has a great engine and handles very well in the bush. One other gripe.... The oil drain bolt with the oil pipe attached to it sux, also the fuel tank should be clear to see fuel level. I still love the bike though

I was just cleaning mine for the fourth time and changing the oil as well and thinking "who the hell has hands this small"? IMHO it's a small price to pay for the fun I get out of this bike. I can only imagine what it'd be like with the 310 engine in it. The thing screams as a 250!

Thanks the tip about removing the side number plate to make sure your air-filter is seated as it was a pain.See if that makes it better.
