  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 310 2014 stalling issues

Update: I still haven't fixed the bike because I don't have time but the last time I rode it stopped working entirely and I had to change the spark plug. I also noticed that when hot it doesn't start with the e-starter, yet with the kickstarter it only needs one kick, sometimes maybe two. I measured the coil resistance and it looks OK, I'm suspecting it could be something with the wiring, surely something electrical. Maybe I should just order a new coil and see but I don't want to waste money. Do these simptoms indicate something else that could be wrong?

Inspect the wiring very carefully, especially around the steering stem; make sure the regulator is not cutting the wiring loom. And a small break may be hard to see. Look for small burns and melted areas too.

A few weird electrical/heat related problems seen on our bikes:
  • Bad coolant temp sensor (CTS)- the white sensor might be more reliable
  • Bad pick up coil- 100ohms, but it can measure good and fail at temp.
  • Bad injector - 12 ohms IIRC? still can fail at temp
  • Loose regulator- I don't know why this would cause weirdness.
  • Bad ECU connection or pins- magnifying glass, look close.
  • Bad battery (or condenser too??)- it starts, so maybe not.
  • Loose connections in general. look for corrosion also.
good luck.

Did you ever figure this out? I’m having the exact same issue. Won’t e-start when hot but starts first kick.
