  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hello husky riders
Some comments on this issue is appreciated
Went riding bike has been starting easily
bike started easy when hot
stopped for lunch engine cooled a bit bike took longer to start than usual
bike still started ok when hot
camped over night my bike would not start in morning it has good spark and the fuel pump is priming there are no errors on the dash indicating injection failure.
Operating the kick start compression seems low?
valve cleaarnce issue?
piston and rings needed?
thx

Piece of dirt holding a valve open?

Check the valve clearance.

according to the mechanic one intake valve needed a 0.3mm shim adjustment which seems alot to me the other three valves are apparently in spec - anyway now heaps of compression bike starts easy but where am in 600kms this issue gave me very little notice?
cheers

.3mm is .012". That is a lot! Must have been stuck open.
They usually don't change more than .001 or .002" between checks if at all.

Keep in mind that the left exhaust valve is under the decompressor. Is that the valve that was tight? Checking that valve can be difficult. You can easily get a wrong reading there.

Keep an eye on that valve.

i agree .012" is alot as for the auto decomp the answer is no according to the mechanic it was an intake not an exhaust valve and only one? it does seem a bit strange.
thx for your interest as you can see i am a bit puzzled
