  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 250 Gearing?

Hello All, so here's the deal, I am getting real familiar with the 2010 Te 250, I was wondering about gearing, What r u guys running??? I am finding the rear wheel is real sqirrely, its breaks loose real easy resulting in a loss of traction, Dry or wet doesnt matter. I am 140lbs, I have the stock suspension set really soft and a Kouba link 1" lowering kit, as I am approx 5'4" (height). Comments?? I am just not used to it yet? I am coming off a Ktm 200 exc. Thanks all appreciate the time and input from everyone-Jim

I have a 2010 TE 250- weigh around same, and yah, my rear wheel doesn't get a lot of traction.. have suspension set to soft and the seat still doesn't go down much when I sit on it. I have a 50 rear sprocket on mine and whatever factory on countersprocket. I may go to a 45 rear eventually as I hit shifting gears every 2 seconds ;)

I think the handling is great though and that lack of traction maybe the lack of force from user weight to the rear wheel.. at least that's the way I've always thought. And my bikes suspension, even on lightest settings, seems awfully tight with little to no sag for my light ass

Most here run 13/50 gearing with some going 12/50 for the tight woods ...

Could be your tire type or too much air pressure ... Maybe you are sitting too far forward and need to put a little more weight towards the rear ...

I run a 12/50 and a Geomax MX 51 with 12-14 psi (sometimes even 10) on the rear. Mine hooks up well on most surfaces but I'm also about 40 lbs heavier than you guys. I run the suspension pretty soft as well (have only bottomed it once on a decent drop off). The original Pirelli's it came with were pretty squirelly.
The center lugs on the Geomax rear is wearing pretty quickly from the 20 minute road ride to my riding spot but the front is holding up (and hooking up) well.

Thanks for the replies, I am running 10lbs of pressure I am running the Bridgestone 203/204 Front /rear tire set up. 13/50 gearing. I will keep you guys posted thanks I always appreciate the help. Jim

I'm in no Jersey too....same bike..I run 13/52....IMHO the 50 rear requires too much clutch for tight woods and rocks up here.

It could also be the lack of low end causing too much clutch and breaking the rear wheel loose.

This bike like to rev out or it is rough down low.

Ok so the stock gearing is 13/50 correct? So you went up in the back interesting would that be to have more grunt in second? I do agree I am clutching a bit more than I thought. Thoughts?

Ok so go up in the back to give second more grunt? Hmm I was thinking I needed to tame it, i am clutching a bit more than expected. Thoughts?

I went to 12t on the front and standard 50 rear, front sprocket is cheaper and quicker to change plus you know you'll be able to take up the extra slack in the chain without removing links.

That was my thinking and how do you like it?

It's fine for the kind of racing I do, if you wring its neck you'll get over 70mph so not at all ideal for much road work but in the tight stuff I find it much better than the 13t which was making me use the clutch too much causing cramp and tiring my left hand early.

No issues with that 52T sprocket and the chain guide? I'd rather go that way then the 12T FS...

I weight the clutch lever on my 08 TXC250 (6speed) (& 010 TC250) for traction ...The hydo clutch works really well here...Just have some speed, set an engine RPM and apply a couple lbs pressure on the clutch lever as needed (feather) and my bikes just hook up ... Unless it is really steep or twisty trail , 2nd gr usually works well for me ...
