  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TC449 break in tips?

Anyone have any do's or don'ts for breaking in the new motors? I've ran my 2011 TE511 pretty hard as well as my 2011 TC449 but picking up a 2013 tomorrow and curious what everyone recommends.

Metal to metal contact with the rings, cyl wall and cams. Heat from the rings is absorbed by the piston and too fast of piston expansion is a no-no. Slow is better. I start with 10% load between cool downs increasing 10% as I go. Synthetic oil yes. Ty mentioned to me that the material hardness on the cylinder walls was much harder than the rings on the 449/511s and that the rings would wear significantly compared to the cylinder wall during seating. Something to consider when deciding break in method choice.

how did your other two engines react to the hard break in method? I will use the hard break in method more than likely with my '13 when it arrives. Many different opinions on this...

Sounds like someone is going after some contingency ;)

Sean buttermen is on a tc449 this year. What series are you riding with this year?

I can't help with the break in but I would really like to read an actual ride report on a new TC449. BTW CONGRATS!

The other two bikes have held up well. The te511 was stunted for a season and did not miss a beat and my 2011 tc449 is also doing well after a Supermoto season it put down good numbers on the dyno too. Ill have one day to break this one in before a three hour endurance ice race this weekend. Oh yeah I run Northwods GP, Superbikers2, and the USA Supermoto series so it's going to be a fun season!

I am on the side of the hard break in method... sounds like that form has served you well. No sense in switching anything when it is the same machine. Good luck either way!

well got the bike home today after 4am start, 770 miles of driving, one wrong way driver of the hwy, and -1degree temps. There are some small changes form my 2011 but nothing to crazy. I'll keep you updated on the progress. Big thanX to Heinen's Husqvarna in MN!

So what's the list of future mods? Getting rid of the old bike too? Just goin to do a direct swap of components?

Congrats on the new ride! I should be riding in the colorado event so ill see you around! I thinks it's about time there are more Huskies lol

I'm just going to swap most of the parts and a few other ideas but nothing to crazy. I liked the setup I had by the end of the 2012 season. I did however get an Ohlins rear and 50mm Marzocchi forks. Those both should make a night and day difference!

well put an hour on the bike on the ice right away, took it pretty easy. Changed the oil, it looked great and barely any metal in the screens or filter. Way better than my 2011 TC449, and 2011 TE511. Then I took the bike out this weekend and did a 3 hour endurance Ice race and beat the snot out of it for 3.7hr. Changed the oil today and it looks like it just got out of the bottle. the screens look mint and the bike is running like a champ. I put about 1300ml of oil in the bike just in case for the endurance race and it burped a lot out the breather as expected. I have to get another breather catch can like on my SM. The only change I did for the cold weather was run the Castrol 10w40 oil same Castrol as stock recommended but not the 20w50.
