  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

TC250 not enough oil getting into clutch basket

Our fastest pro rider is not getting enough oil in his clutch basket on the TC250 2010. Any mods?? Aftermartets available??

Drilling holes is to evacuate more oil from clutch. Don't understand what part of the clutch needs more oil.

Only about half the clutch plates are actually getting oil. This causes the clutch to slip a bit and overheat under extreme conditions.
 
I remember one of the mags talking about this. I believe the onsite Husq staff drilled holes in basket or something.

I pulled the clutch cover on my TC250 the other day and the cover, basket, everything looked dry.

Yup thought about that, also thought about using an aftermarket clutch like the manual or semi automatic rekelus, any ideas? Unfortunatly Hinson docent make baskets for the TC......???
 
Doesn't lack of oil cause it to be grabby? Like when you let the clutch out from being stopped and it launches forward? Given that the plates aren't warped and the basket isn't knotched. Maybe verify that the friction plates and steels are up to min spec and that the springs are up to min spec. If all is well could try some preload on the clutch springs with washers to see if that helps... I don't know... really- but throwing out ideas for you to test. You guys (pros) are supposed to figure this stuff out and share with us! :) I don't see how aftermarket basket's and hubs are going to increase friction- they just seem to sell cause they might last longer- cept' the auto clutches which seems to just be controled slippage- but in a good way.
I'd also reccomend contacting Ziptie Racing and Halls Husqvarna and see what their experience is. OR contact UPtite Racing- I bet he can make you guys what you need if you really need it.
 
I've looked into getting some 'oversize' clutch covers made for the TC250, which would hold more oil.

They would be hard anodised black, and custom engraved. I'd need a minimum of 10 though,

Isn't oil feed through the center of the shaft where the rod travels?

If that's the case, then look at rod itself for modifications to allow more oil flow and drilling the inner hub to allow more oil to the plates.

I'd start with the hub, then see if the oiling improves. If you can't see a marked improvement then look at the clearances around the rod in the shaft. "Fluting" of the rod may be needed to increase oil flow to the hub.

Until you figure it out, you can lay the bike with the bars on a stand, like you would if you were changing clutch plates, but with the clutch side down. This will bath the clutch in oil and possible help, short term.

one of saccot summers mods on his bikes was to drill a series of holes in the baskets to promote improved flow to the plates. a long time mod for anything he rode.

Or you can just order a rekluse core cover. It's oversize.

I emailed rekluse about this and they told me they dont make one for the 2010 TC250, thats why I wanted to make one.
 
They have made one.
