  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Cracking review in this months TBM magazine..:applause:
pitches a 2010 te310 against a KTM 310 250 with (big bore kit) reader/shop special..
great comments on handling, build quality, suspension, and agility feel for rider all get thumbs up.. a great review.

ive scanned the cover to give you a taster..

The KTM also gets a cracking review but kind of gives the impression that its more of a hardcore race bike imo.. where the 310 is more allrounder if that makes sense.. plus the ktm has had some serious work & i imagine money thrown at it- you cant buy it off the shelf..

i have scanned the article but would not like to take any sales away from an excellent magazine.. and would this not be against cafe husky rules?
husky sport has contacted the magazine and i guess in a few weeks they may enable a PDF to be displayed

uk residents can buy it for 3.95 .. not sure about you oversea guys.
 
There are no clearly defined rules regarding posting magazine article type content, except it must come down asap if the owner of the content complains.

There is a rule about being high class, so if someone knows anything about the magazines background/situation etc that might make a difference. I should probably seek out additional information regarding tbm. On one hand it might encourage people to sign up a subscription, on the other hand it may discourage people from doing that.
 
I'm pretty sure scanning and distributing is a breach of copyright if nothing else! We always ask the publisher for permission before using anything, normally I get the publication to send us the PDFs so there can't be any dispute.

If you ask them, they will get it. B&N is the US distributor.

And, yes it is a violation of TBMs copyright to post photocopies of their magazine.
 
To add.....

TBM is possibly the best dirt bike magazine on the market. It is worth seeking out and worth $10 per issue. Unlike their US counterparts, they have no problem giving bad reviews on a bike and then printing the letters from the distributors bitching about the reviews.

The best part is that Honda has not 'won' a shoot out in the 2 years that I've been a reader.
 
TBM is definitely my favourite mag. Nicely written, photographed, and usually quite long, articles.

The only problem is that availability seems sporadic here. I'll definitely have a look for this issue.

Someone posted me a link to your forum so I thought I'd come on here and say hello. We publish TBM (Trailbike & Enduro Magazine) in the UK. It was my baby, I launched it 15 years ago and still do a lot of the testing. TBM is known for it's no-nonsense, independent, honest stance. We test bikes, then report our findings. No cover-up, no bull and no advertorial. Ever!

I don't want to make this a big plug for our magazine, but I do want to let you guys know that independent mags like TBM can only go on existing if people pay for them and don't reproduce them on-line. We don't make much profit, nor drive fancy cars (though I do own a '57 Chevy step-side pick-up for work), but we believe that what we're doing is worthwhile.

The UK Husky importer has asked me whether we would consider supplying PDFs of the article for this site (for you guys), and we're looking into it, but as it's our issue that has just gone on sale over here, it won't be for a little while.

If I'm not breaking any forum rules then I can tell you that TBM can be ordered from any Barnes & Noble or direct from our site on www.trailbikemag.com. The high cost is due (in part) to the extortionate cost of postage in mainland Europe, and also because everything is expensive to produce in the UK. Don't get me started on that one!

But if you like the product, believe in an independent press, and want to go on seeing honest tests of dirt bikes ridden by journalists who are not afraid to point an accusing finger at times, then why not support us. It may be 100 bucks, but what price a little bit of free-thinking...

If you just randomly showed up then I suppose it might not be ok. But I specifically asked for information about your fine magazine, which we all adore, with regard to what was acceptable to share online.

Good on you TBM. I have not seen your product in Australia. We have several OK magazines in Oz but they are advertiser driven glossies in most respects. I lost all faith in the ADB mag here last year when out of the blue the 09 WR450F won the 450 bike of the year. Amazing, no real upgrades for 2 years and previuosly not the winner then poof there she is on the Podium. Bearing in mind that a lot of other major brands had done significant improvements in that time frame. It was for me the last straw. I mentioned my disattisfaction on their site only to have the editor give me a gob ful-must have hit his hip pocket nerve. By the way I love the Yammys they are great dirt bikes, it just my reference to the reliability/credibility of the printed press and what really drives them. So stay the faith, us consumers out here need honest input to help with our decision making. By the way can you agitate for someone to extract the digit and finally produce an efi 2 stroke and also a choice of 350 four strokes would be nice. Really nice to hear from you.

Do you, or are you considering producing an online version? Ie. it would save the cost of physical printing and the cost of mailing to this side of the Atlantic........
