  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Tanks options for 08-09 models your feedback req.

Im considering producing my own subject to public demand and setup costs which I am currently investigating.

Let me know the capacity you would prefer and if the standard design used on other bikes with saddle style tanks such as on the Honda 450X IMS tank is suitable for you. This design may cause the engine to run a few degrees hotter as it is more enclosed than the current 3 gallon option.

Currently I think the tank option for the 09 range is pathetic and even more so the design they have gone with.

Name the model/year of your bike as well

I think the biggest demand is for the 2008, 2009 and 2010 bikes with the puny 1.9 gallon tank. Most people would be happy with a 3.0 gallon tank give or take. If the shrouds fit, a steering damper fits then that should make about everyone happy.

I'd settle for 2.5 to 3.0 on my 2009 TE310. That'll give me at minimum 60 miles. I second the steering damper & shrouds. I'll be first on the list when that exists!

Weight carried lower.

Yep, put all the gas below the stock tank. Make sure you cover EFI bikes and remember you can put the pump low as you can. My 94 WXC250 has a brilliant tank, slim and holds 3.4 gallons all doewn low and around the motor.

BTW the EFI 610 guys need a solution really bad as well. Someone is going to own this market some day (I hope!!!)

this is the single biggest reason husky does not sell bikes in bigger numbers. We are willing to pay a reasonable price for this and they completely ignore us.

KTM makes a killing off of in-house after market parts catalog!

I would trade the flip flops, key rings, toasters and ipod covers for tanks****************************************

Back on topic-

I'd like a 3 gallon, weight low and tight, my TXC runs plenty cool now.

I'm not worried about damper mounts- don't feel the need for one, but I do want to utilize the stock red shrouds.

I culd also use a 3gallon + tank, 40 miles to a tank isn't cutting it! I can barely make it to school, haha

LARGER tank for the FI 610 that uses stock shroud.
LARGER than 3.0 gl. for the FI 510 down and carried Low and Damper compatable.

The stock 1.9 is fine for Enduros and Vintage MX stuff but I'd like a 2.5-3 for Harescrambles and cross country races.

2008 TE 450:
seeing as there is a 3 gallon tank available, though it is not perfect, it would be nice to see a 5 gallon tank for longer trips like Baja:D

Well... I'd just like to not have to be peddling gas from my buddies on their stock orange bikes on any given weekend I don't strap an extra gallon of fuel to my back. Gas isn't cheap when your in the middle of nowhere! An extra 1/2 gallon or more would go a long way to solve that problem!

For me the ideal tank would be;
-retain stock shrouds
-2.5 -2.75 gallons
-retain stock looks of bike as much as possible (read as - make it attractive)

Maybe make two tank options;
A 2.5 gallon tank for those of us who just need a bit more fuel capacity
And a 3 gallon tank for those who need alot more capacity

The beauty of the 2.5-2.75 gallon tank is that it could probably retain the stock looks quite well while affording the extra capacity.

I agree with RedRims post. Making two tank size options would be ideal, but I'd settle for one tank that was 2.75-3 gallons. Please keep the weight low, do not make added capacity in the shrouds, and use the stock shrouds.

The dream tank

My ideal tank: 3 + gal. keep it slim put the fuel around the engine, you could drive a bus through the gap on stock tank.
I have an old '05 WR-250f with a IMS lowrider "wraparound" tank that requires fuel ports on both sides with crossover, and fuel line to go around carb to create siphon as it is lower than float bowl (which it wouldn't on EFI)
At first I was worried about sparkplug access, during a race or ride. But have never had to swap a plug all these years ,other than during standard maintanance .And if only putting a couple gallons in,all the weight is below the seat.
Build that tank for the Husky and they will come ! Waiting with CC drawn .Kerry

P.S.- don't forget to leave room for the steering damper post, and mounts for radiator covers
