    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

So, what is your favorite tank bag and why. Please be size and model specific since many manufacturers make more than one model. I see a lot of Wolfman bags, but not sure what model. Brand loyalty may be the driver for some . I don't see too many Giant Loop Fandango or Diablo bags. That surprises me since the price is about the same and the Giant Loop has easy access during fueling.

I am looking for an all weather, Goldilocks bag. Not too big, not too small, but just right. I will be using it for both day-to-day and adventure riding. I often stand when riding off highway. I will be carrying the usual stuff, some of it expensive: compact mirrorless DSLR camera and lens, cell phone, spare batteries and charger for phone and camera, very small first aid kit, sunglasses, etc with enough spare room for gloves when I am off the bike and not wearing them. I don't want the contents to get wet or dusty and would like easy fuelling access without dumping the contents if I tip it to one side, and easy removal for a quick restaurant stop, a quick hike, or on overnight stops.

Some bags are tall, some are short. Some are expandable and can be tall or short. A waterproof bag is a real plus since I live in wet country. Some bags are made of waterproof material, Others require a waterproof covering cover bag that is sometimes an extra price option. I'll most likely store the more vulnerable stuff in a dry bag inside the tank bag though.

So far the Wolfman and especially the Giant Loop come closest to meeting my criteria. I would like the size to be about the GL Diablo size if I can get away with it, but I need to learn more.

If you have them, pictures please of bags mounted, in fueling mode, when dismounted, showing contents, and any other photos you think might help everyone.
 
I, too, was looking for the perfect tank bag. Perfect for me means RED. I had decided on the Giant Loop Fandango. Red? Nope. So, I found an Axio tank bag on ebay. I believe these were made for sport bikes. It can be attached with magnetic flaps....no use here, or Velcro straps....a real pain for refueling. Also has a hidden pouch with straps to turn it into a backpack. It turned out to be a little big to use up front (17" x 13") but fits nicely in the rear. A one gallon Rotopax fits in there with room for tools and tubes. I don't believe it is waterproof but it did come with a cover for use in the wet. Until Giant Loop comes out with a red Fandango, I guess I'll do without.

After seeing someone else's Giant Loop Fandango mounted up, I bought one. It fits awesome and isn't at all in the way. Hardly notice its there. I would think the Diablo would be too small to really be of much use.
 
I like the Wolfman small Expedition - bought it for the TE 610, used it on that, the TE 630, and find it's even a better fit on the TR650.

The best thing about the Fandango is how you can unzip it halfway from the base to fill up. The Wolfman products require you to undo the front buckle, fill up, then snake the buckle back around the steering head to reconnect. Also, the colors match great on the GL products. And on my 630 I was able to put the rear straps under the tank shrouds and mounted to the frame under the seat. You really can't even see them. Would imagine it would be possible with the Terra as well.

The out of the way refueling access is the big draw for me too.

I like the GL stuff a lot - I had a Coyote I used on my XR650R for long camping sojourns on a bike with virtually no subframe. Awesome stuff.

But the Wolfman bag doesn't require you to pop the front buckles and snake anything back around....pop the back two buckles and slide the bag out of the way.

I've got the Wolfman Expedition model and I've used it on several bikes over the years. I like the expandable size and the waterproof cover and map holder. I just wish it had some more outer pockets that I could use to separate the more frequently used items. Stuff gets a little cluttered up inside.

I just undo the 2 buckles on the side and slide mine over. No problem. I really like the Wolfman on my 610 and it will eventually find its way onto the Terra. Can't bear to muss up the pretty plastics just yet, though. I won't put it on there til I need it for a longer trip :)

it is small, but large enough to carry my pistol, wallet, smartphone, lighter and thin cigarette case. we mostly ride tough single track and this bag is low profile enough to not bash your plums all the time. ;)

its definately smaller than what you are looking for but is a great option if someone needs a small bag.

large enough for a front tube, small first aid kit, small tool kit, tire spoons, cliff bar, tube repair kit, and some jb weld.

I volunteer with the local ranger district and they have outfitted our bikes with wolfman daytripper saddle bags http://wolfmanluggage.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_id=95 very roomy for OHV maps to hand out to users, reports, larger first aid kit, small hand saw, and some work gloves..

Nothing but good things to say about Wolfman.

dunno on the waterproof-ness, perhaps some scotchgaurd?

Ah, never thought of that. I had the Wolfman on my WR250 and had the rear straps and buckles tucked under the seat and shrouds since I hate seeing them. Never had access to the rear buckles.

Yeah, the straps look really stupid to me, too, but it's worth it to have easy access when fueling up.
 
Hello everyone! First post! Quick question, has anyone try to fit an ipad into the map holder on the gaint loop fandango tank bag? I use the ipad with the Garmin GLO to navigate and curious if that would even work. I understand I might not even be able to operate the touch screen, but still wondering the size. Thanks

Saw this on a vendor's FAQ site about the Fandango:
Will iPad fit inside the clear top section

"Answer:
Yes, once the internal divider is removed, the iPad will lie flat in the Giant Loop Fandango Tank Bag. It is sized exactly the same as the iPad and reduces to about 3/4 of the bottom size at the top."

"Answer:
Maybe, but that's about all you'll get in the bag. It would need to be situated on the side. Let me check it tonight and I'll let you know."
If he checked back, I missed it. The responses seemed to address fitting an iPad inside the bag, not inside the clear section. Guess someone here will have to try it. BTW, didn't iPad come out with a smaller model?

An iPad mini will fit in the top section, no way a full sized iPad will.
