  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Tank bag vs Fender bag for TE310

Now that I have my first dual-sporter my old bones seem to be having issues using a back-pack to carry stuff-my shoulders get quite sore. I've tried three different types of packs, with and without upper straps, and none seem to help so I'm thinking I want to get the weight of my tools off my back and carry them some other way. I don't seem to notice this so much when running single-track and really moving around on the bike, but fire-roading and street stretches where I'm just sitting seem to do me in.

What's your experience with fender vs tank for carrying tools-specifically on these 310's? Is one set-up better for more aggressive riding that another?

I vote against the front fender bag, I haven't ever used one, but almost every guy that I ride with that uses a front fender bag, is always having to re-adjust it, and tighten it and such.

A fanny pack is another way to go. Keeps your tools lower on the body & the back pack can be just for hydration & food, not as heavy. The fender bags usually just add unsprung weight & end up falling apart & losing tools...JMO

Wolfman stuff is good. I have their peak tailsack and small tankbag. I want the E12 saddlebags, they are on my list.

Since you're using both(fender and tank), do you feel each has it's own best application as far as what kind of stuff you're putting into them?

No I don't use a fender bag. I use a small tankbag and a peak tailsack. Easy on and off. They stay secure.
I put most used items in the tank bag. The rest in the tail. If it's all day I will use a backpack, with a light load.
I am old and the weight on my back is tiring.

Great advice-tried that set-up on a 130 miler today and it was WAY better!
