• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Suspension Setup recommendations.

Correct, put some hours on the new spring and recheck sag before coming to any definite conclusions.

That would suggest the spring is only just stiff enough for me, is that correct? Is that likely to change once the spring beds in after a few rides?

I'd say you're correct. You need every bit of that 6.0. If a spring does break in, I'd expect it to get a very little bit softer as any internal manufacturing stresses are relieved with use. Probably not even noticeable on the very good springs that we get today.

Thanks for your replies. I haven't been able get out and test it yet. Unfortunately I now live around 2 hours away from the closest decent riding area so it's a full day thing. Actually looking forward to testing it, I have no doubt it will feel much improved even if the forks aren't totally sorted yet. I'll report back once I test it. Thanks again.

OK, an update.......
I have just put in a 6.0 spring and set the numbers best I can. They came back at a static sag of 30mm and rider sag of 103 which is the lower limit for static and upper limit for rider according to Vinduro's formula. That would suggest the spring is only just stiff enough for me, is that correct? Is that likely to change once the spring beds in after a few rides? Now I just have to find some time to get out and test it.......
What is yor preload on the spring at?

What is yor preload on the spring at?
I didn't actually measure the free length vs compressed length. I couldn't find a number recommended by the manufacturer and most of the reading I have done lead me to believe that the static and ride sag are the better indicators of a correct spring. Happy to be corrected if that's not the case though!

Yes, free and rider sag are the real indicators. Preload on the spring doesn’t mean much if the sags are where you want them.
