  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Sumo-nization of my TE449...

So Ive got the exhaust finished and the EFI sort of figured out...
I rode the bike last night for a bit and the only problem I have at this point is the idle sticking when I come to a stop. The gearing is good at tho...44 tooth rear is nice. Maybe go one down but Im not sure. 4th gear, the front end came up with no cluch or anything, just a little tug haha. This thing runs awesome aside from the sticking idle.
One other thing I need to sort out...The sensor for the speedo is not registering. Anyone have luck super gluing a magnet to the brake disc so the speedosensor will pick up a signal? Where might one find a little round magnet which would work for this application...?

looks good! check your throttle cable routing. Mine was hung up on a fuze near the triples. You keepin your 18/21" wheels?

I'll check the cable but I think its just the fuel mapping....
Hmm...
Yep Im gonna keep the other wheels for some dual sport rides.

That is somewhat programmed into the ECU. It runs on so it does not have a bunch of compression braking which many people do not like. I noticed this early on when i got mine. I like it, others many not. Not sure there is a solution.

I dont mind it; just wondered if it was something I had to adjust because of my recent exhaust/EFI tuner isntall. This bike is something for me to get used to. My SUMO last year was an 07 SM510R with a slipper and monster front brake. Sliding the back wheel into a turn will be interesting on this bike. Im not saying I can back it in just yet..was still working on that last year but the back end slid nicely on the 510...

Yup. I have a little magnet glued to the big rotor for my 610 sumo wheels. I drilled a little blind hole (not all the way though) to stick the magnet in, hoping that would help it stay in place. I think I just used superglue to stick it on...

I got my magnet from McMaster. http://www.mcmaster.com/ They have lots, try part number 5902K48 and surf around from there.

Mine has been like that for about a year or two, maybe 1k-2k miles, still works great.

Reset the TPS - I had the idle high after comming aff the gas (only for 2-3 sec) but after resetting the TPS it's gone! There is a thread on there with how to do it!

Well, I just wanted to update the issue with the hanging idle/erratic idle.
Did a TPS reset with the bike warmed up. Checked my settings on the JD tuner and made a couple tweaks. Also turned the air screw back in about a 1/2 turn.
Bike runs awesome now. No flameouts, no sticking idle, starts easy and idles nicely. No flat spots anywhere and the throttle response is excellent. My only issue with the bike now is that I have no idea how fast Im going haha. Working on getting a magnet glued to the disc soon. Tried a small magnet and there wasnt enough "pull". In the garage on a stand, I spun the wheel with my hand and it registered. Anything above a couple miles an hour and it's not picking it up. Ordered a bigger magnet.

Thru my Husky dealer, Toytech. He ordered them directly from Warp 9. They retail for around $900 for the whole deal. All you need is tires and tubes. Takes about 2-3 weeks til you get them (build time). You tell them what size rear sprocket you want also.
There are better wheelsets out there I'm sure but this is the most economical and they work great. If your dealer hooks you up, you might get them at a better price but there is little markup.

Also, if you want to mount a 160 rear tire, be careful with that. I have a Michelin Pilot Pure race in a 160 and I have a slight bit of chain bite. From my reading on the SMJ forum, you're not getting better traction with a wider tire, however, some "race" tires in 160 are not as wide as street tires. I just happened to have a 160.

Glueing a magnet on the brake disc. I'll post a pic when finished.

That will allow the speedo to work, but it will read incorrectly. Are you going to use an aftermarket speedo?

I will use the stock one. My plan is to go thru some speed checks around the neighborhood and see how accurate it is. Either that or my gps. If its way off I'll get an aftermarket speedo/computer. Ive used the Trail Tech computers on other bikes. They work great.
