• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Stuck on the trail..,.

I have a 630, went off a small jump and when I landed the bike died. There is no power when the key is on. I checked the battery and what power cables I can see but can't find the problem. Any thoughts?

The fuses look good, everything by the battery is snug. Really weird, as soon as I hit the ground and the suspension compressed it just died.

Don't have a multimeter with me ...., luckily an angel in a jeep came by and rescued me. She had tie downs that we rigged into a tow rope. Towed me the four or five miles needed to get me back to asphalt. AAA did the rest.

To your question, no dash lights, no horn, no nuttin. Turning the key does zero. For only 600 miles on the bike this is strange.

I've no idea about the 610/630 but several of us 250/310/450/510 owners have had the ground connection at the starter relay come loose with similar symptoms. On my 510 it's near the battery behind the left side panel.

Is it a TE or an SMS? The SMS has a rollover sensor under the seat that kills the fuel/ignition on impact.

Thanks Paul, I will be by this coming week if I can get the time off from work. A brief update, although at the time the fuse looked okay it was actually blown. The semi transparent fuse cover needs to be removed in order to see if ti is actually good or not. I still do not know what caused the fuse to go, and I have not been able to replicate what I did. However, now since I put a new fuse in I lost my speedo. All other electrical aspects of the bike seem fine, but the speedo shows zero when riding and the odometer doesn't turn. I'll be down south to get all this taken care of and updates done as well. Thanks for the responses.

Sorry this took so long, but have been busy working and riding. The cause for the blown fuse were wires for the rectifier that were pinched underneath the battery. My 630 had only six hundred miles at the time this happened, so I am guessing that when the bike was assembled they ran the wires incorrectly. This short seems to have blown up the speedo so the dealer has a replacement for me but will take two more weeks to get. When I picked up my bike, the dealer told me everything was fixed but when I got one block away noticed the speedo was still inop. A brief test ride would have shown this, so I was a little frustrated about that. Otherwise, the dealer support has been good, they warrantied everything and put the new sprocket bolts and clutch push rod on for me. If you haven't done so, I would check those wires near or under your battery and make sure they aren't pinched.

I had the speedo on my '08 TE510 stop working, well the speed and mile counter stopped but the hour meter kept going. It is the same unit in form and function as the 630's. Is your hour meter still working? Check the pick up wire from the front end. My problem was the wire from the front tire magnet had broke up top at the connection. I spliced it back together and put some heat shrink over it.

I have been having a problem with my battery voltage dropping as I ride and after 20 or so miles my bike will refuse to start. I pulled the battery and found that I had the same issue as you did with the improperly routed harness. My red wire was chewed through and one of the yellow wires needed some TLC as well.

After I fixed that issue and charged my battery, the battery still discharges about .01v every 15 seconds or so.

I'm stumped and starting a new thread.

Had a similar issue with the battery constantly dischaging.
Turned out to be a faulty voltage regulator not allowing the battery to charge while riding.

TSpoon and I got our TE's in their shipping containers. The battery was not installed on the bike from the factory; it was in its own box and and the battery was not installed on the bike. The electrolyte had to be added to the battery. Those who are seeing an improperly run harness might want to take the issue to their dealer.

If you had the set of tools on top of the battery they probably circuited the battery (it happened to me with the te630). You have to replace the battery and everything will be fine.
