  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Stretched throttle cable?

Londin

Husqvarna
AA Class
For a little while now i've had large play in my throttle. So today I wanted to fix it only to find out that I could not adjust it enough to reduce the free play to approx 2mm!

Top photo shows the adjustment I max can do! Bottom how much I need to do!

Question: Can i modify the cable or must I buy a new expensive piece of wire aka a new cable from the stealership!?

Had similar results especially when I installed the G2 throttle tube, I've adjusted the cable as far as it'll go and just put up with the slop at the throttle tube as a result *shrug*

Which threaded piece are you using to reduce the slack in your "pull" throttle cable? There should be one at the throttle body and one at the handlebar.

The 449/511 only has one at the throttle body, if it has one up at the bars I couldn't find it.

The 2nd pic, at the top left corner, what is that threaded object? (a pic of the maxed out adjustment bolt would be handy!)

See below from manual. You have a nut on each end, this is to 'fixate' the cable. I need to move it so far back that the 2nd nut can't be used.image.jpg

Seems like Husky ordered the throttle cables 5-10mm too long.... Maybe they used the TC's cables for the other TB and just ordered a bazillion of them and put them on the TE/SMR's.

Londin; When you get your G2 quick turn cam it should take a bit of the slack out.

Already installed! I have your cam as well.

What I would do, and I'm cheap, so, most people would pass on this:

Measure the return/push throttle cable, if it measures up to be able to work, then use that as your pull throttle cable and forego the push/return cable. If the return cable is too long, then remove the return cable and use the return cable hole in the cam wheel as the anchor hole for the too-long pull cable.
((On the subject of not using the return cable: On my bike, I have already disconnected the push/return throttle cable and left it on the bike, to be used as a spare throttle cable. In the pic below, you can see all of the slack of the push/return cable poked out of the plastic cover and wrapped up around the top. No problems in over a year/6000 miles like that))

SECOND OPTION - shorten the main cable on the cheap
To the right of where the #9 arrow point is in the owners manual pic, I would cut the cable and remove a small section thus shortening the cable. The cut needs to be located so that the joined area does not touch the cam wheel or the cable anchor area.
Get a standard butt join electrical connector and crimp that on the 2 cut ends.
Flow a little solder into each end of the butt connector.

What thinking about doing that. Youtube are great for finding all the tips for it. !

Nop. My bike is in a crate on its way to Denmark so haven't touched it for a long time now. It will arrive here for the winter season so will have some time to sort it out then.
