    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Strada low front fender options

I'm looking around a bit trying to see if I can find any low front fenders that would give more protection that the stock one. I'm half tempted to lay out a mold based on the stock one and see if I can't make something to suit my needs in fiberglass (since I'm too cheap to try carbon fiber).

I'm looking for any low fender, for a 19 inch wheel, using inverted forks. The Triumph Tiger looks to be one of the few out there with that setup, there are a lot of traditional forks with the setup, but those have a very different method of mounting.

Any thoughts?
 
I would make one from the inside of the std one. Check carbon prices though because they have come down a lot in the last few years. You really only need 3 layers but epoxy is more expensive than polyester. I didn't bother because the std one is so light and USD forks don't require using a carbon mudguard as a crossbrace ( a great "cheat" in racing to get around on fork brace rules). I will just be making a polycarb extention for the bottom .

That one would probably work, but it's still about a 60* arc and I'd like to find/make something closer to a 90* arc. The stock fender leaves a lot of grime being kicked up onto the radiator and engine. Since I'm planning to put in a few thousand miles of gravel and dirt roads in over about 2 weeks later this year, I'm trying to come up with ways to better protect the engine and radiator from road debris.
 
The Terra is the first bike I have owned that throws stuff up on and over the top of the gas tank too. I've never experienced that before.

The Xcountry has at least one fender extension option.
There may be others as it is a somewhat standard type shape.

Not sure how common that will be to find a used one. A factory new one is $230 plus the $63 brace. Plus the aftermarket extension... So, looking at around $350 for that setup. Someone sure values their plastic. I, however, can think of other ways to spend $350.

The KTM (640 or 990/1190) part might be pretty close fit. They're made for a 21" wheel, so that would give roughly an inch of additional clearance figuring the tires into it, which would not be a bad thing. They would need an extension as well.

Making up my own with fiberglass could be a good deal of work and I'm not great with the stuff, but I've made a few parts before. So, I'm really leaning towards finding something cheap that can be made to fit.
 
Yea BMW stuff is pricey.
The Xcounrty was not a big seller either so finding a used one would be a challange.

If you dont mind the 21" types, perhaps you could find a used BMW 800GS fender.
The 800GS fender looks like it offers a little more coverage than the KTM ADV fenders, and of course you can add an extender too.

I agree, I might have to message that seller to see what wasn't close to fitting. I'd bet the front would fit with at most drilling a couple new holes. The rear could be lengthen with brackets, or shortened with a saw and drill...

Maybe that guy was trying to put it on a Terra, which does not have the rear support on the fork lowers?

I'm thinking it's going to be worth a try.
 
The X-Country looks to have the same mounting tabs as the TR650. I scrapped my low fender for a high one months ago, but this thread has me re-thinking my idea to try to find a low option for a 21" wheel. Hmmmm......
 
Well, I've got the F800GS piece on the way. So, we'll see how it looks when it comes in.

I have no doubt the X-Country would bolt right up. It looks identical to the Strada forks. But that price tag just doesn't sit well with me for what it is.
 
Looks like the BMW part will be at my door Friday. So, I'll get a chance to test fit it this weekend. I'll take some pictures to show how it looks.
 
You could try keeping the stock fender and get this. Part number 20 would replace part number 11 on your strada. I went with the higher fender of the Terra and that black fender rear part is hardly noticeable. It seems to cover the radiator pretty well.

I also threw a Terra setup on my Strada and my radiator stays clean through mud, sand, etc. I trimmed the very bottom, but can't remember now what it was rubbing.

Where does one find the spare parts catalogue these days? I should have saved it long ago... but of course, I didn't.
