  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Stock Scorpion Extra X rear tire

I have the Scorpion Extra X on the rear(and front) of my 310R. What are your thoughts on this tire? My track consists of sugar sand corners and hardpack, almost rock, straightaways. My woods loop consists of grass and sugar sand. There is no real "dirt" here in south Florida. The tires work good in the sand and grass but when I transition from the sandy corner to the hardpack straightaway, they immediately break loose and I spinout and go off the track. Any advice on a better tire or tire pressure> I run 12 lbs. Thanks

My races are sand and grass. I'm not looking to purchase a hardpack tire. Maybe just some suspension or air pressure adjustment help for a soft terrain tire

Mike, you will be well served with the MX Extras on your bike especially because you cover such a diverse range of terrain. The latest version MX Extra X will do it all and handle very well to boot and the new front MX Extra X is an absolutely fantastic all round tyre.
If there was not as much hard pack I would also strongly recommend the Michelin S12 XC rear.

The Pirelli's are the best all-around tire I've found - not much 'dirt' here in Az either - just rocks, sand, and hardpack. I've found that Tubliss inserts work well for me in all conditions with around 7.5 psi. The Tubliss stiffens up the sidewall so the bike steers well with low pressure - and doesn't flat - and when the bike is straight up and down the low pressure lets the tire get decent traction.

I am another big fan of the MX extra X I have also had good luck with the Bridgestone M403 on the front.
