  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC Stock FE AND TE skid plates?

SM113

Husqvarna
B Class
Just wondering what the opinions are on the stock plastic skid plates that the FE's come with? Durable? Good fasteners? I mean are they staying on? (Unlike some KTM's that I seem to always find lying in the tails lol...)

Are they strong enough to withstand some good trail junk and debris?

Thanks, wondering if I should just order up a new one or what.

havent had any trouble with mine (knock on wood) its easy to take on and off which i like! i dont ride much rock or roll over anything other than a huge log here and there so i cant speak for those situations.

So far so good with mine as well. Mounts up fast and solid. I would like to see a bit more side case coverage but overall it seems sufficient.

I've had this OEM skid plate on my Husaberg TE250 for two and a half years, with lots of miles. I ride lots rocks, roots and logs. Definitely creeks with ledges, that you have to roll down. The skid plate has taken lots of abuse and has the dings to prove it. The front Dzus fastener has always stayed latched. I had an odd fall in an off camber and landed at the base of a large tree and a big root popped the plate out at rear mounting tab. Front stayed attached and I just unlatched it and reattached it.

If you search this for KTM's on KTM Talk you'll see more info. Some riders tape over the Dzus fastener for security, some replace the fastener with a expansion chamber mounting bolt and threaded clip.

Stock plate is a very good item, a zip tie or safety wire is good measure to help retain the dzus fastener.
That said I have a TMD skid plate with an Obie link guard at the rear, the TMD just has better side coverage, which I wanted/need.

IMHO the TDM or Hyde skidplates are a good bit better. That stock one is pretty good though. Just make sure to secure it or you will littler the trails. I find a lot of those. Buddy of mine was stoked to get a free one off the trail the other day.

One thing I would like to add is that the stock guard began rubbing the frame paint off in a few spots so I added some vinyl grip tape to prevent excessive frame paint wear.

Well was at my local dealer hanging out and he happened to have a TM Designs skid plate that he has had in stock for a while, so impulse buying kicked in lol... Couldn't pass it up for $70!
