Has any body else seen this problem?
My clutch was grabbing on my 511 a few months ago - every time I put it in gear it just starts trying to ride off with me, even with the clutch in. It's so bad that even with the engine off you can't have it in gear with the clutch in and push it around without straining yourself.
I've had to previously replace the torque limiter and when I took it in to the shop to have the clutch fixed they replaced the steel and fibers in the clutch because the steel was blue, which they said was because it'd gotten too hot. They just figured that because the plates were blue they must have been the problem. When I got it back it was just as bad, if not worse, particularly when it got hot. When I took it back they diagnosed a blown head gasket so it's been having a top end rebuild. They tried to give it back the other day but the problem is still there so they still have it.
When I had it back before the top end rebuild, I took it for a hard ride and noticed something strange. It felt like there was air in the lines or something, because as I was riding, the clutch grab slowly started getting worse and worse, every time I pulled the clutch in. It started off not too noticeable, but after about 15 minutes of hard riding I started to notice it getting worse. It got to the point where it was as if the clutch wasn't even in when you were at a standstill, and so the bike would stall.
As I said, the torque limiter has been replaced, the plates have been replaced, I've checked and double checked the lever (as it almost feels like the lever isn't depressing all the way) and still got the problem.
Is it possible that the excessive heat that blued up the plates also degraded the springs?
