  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Stator Cover Leaking 12 TE 310

Snoho310

Husqvarna
AA Class
Got through with a long dusty ride and was met with a very ugly sight... an oil and dirt covered motor sorta all over the place but mainly the stator cover and lower.

Next day cleaned the motor and fired her up and there is a slow steady leak from the top of the stator cover next to or at the grommet for the wires. The one time dirty oil would be a benefit because I can't pinpoint the exact area. Before I start pulling things apart I thought I would ask if anyone else has had this issue. I am praying that small section of the cover is part of the crankcase and I don't have a crankshaft seal failure.

Got impatient waiting on the moderator and discovered on my own that the stator is in the crankcase, that is a first for me. Hopefully I am only out a quart of oil and a little silicone on the grommet to find and fix the leak. Out of curiousity what is pulling the cover back in place when pulled away from the case?

On the plus side my garage slab won't be getting rusty anytime soon.

The magnets on the stator are pulling on the coil. That's what makes it hard pull it out the first inch or so and what pulls it back on the last inch.

I love the search function but could never find it, just figured out it is only available when you sign in. Thanks for doing a write up I will definetely read it prior to re sealing the cover tonight.

My 2011 TE250 is leaking from the grommet as well,
Can you put silicone on the top of it?
Or do you really have to pull the thing apart?

Wonder if you could just put a drop or two of fork oil on the outside of the grommet and swell it up enough to seal without taking everything apart?

You can but I prefer to clean it down, seal it properly so it looks factory, I done it on my bike when it had next to zero Klms on it so didn't want it looking shitty, older bike, go for it.

Just degrease it properly. :)

Took some pics last time I did it...

Tools:
Essential:
8mm spanner to remove gear lever
4mm(?) allen key - alternator cover
Contact cleaner or brake cleaner
Oil resistant high temp silicone

Not essential:
8mm T handle to remove chain guard (not really necessary)
15-16mm spanner - only used if gear lever is stubborn to remove
2 x 76mm hose clamps and flathead screwdrivers - only used if cover is hard to remove... clamp around cover and use as lever points.

Note: I wiped off the silicone on the gasket before reassembling... maybe was too much :)

Mine leaked from the first day I brought it home from the dealer. When I had the ECU and injector swapped to the TXC I had Halls repair the leak under warranty. It stayed leak free for a couple of weeks and began seeping again. I gave up on it and just wiped the oil off after each ride. So far the new FE501 seems to be leak free at the same spot. We will see how long it stays that way.

That black permatex stuff on boogies post is the best. Works on so many things and is the way to go if you take the sealant path.
