• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC Standing up on footpegs on road? legal or illegal ???

Hi all what's your thoughts....ive got a set of motards for my TE300.. been riding having fun , but occasionally I need to stand to stretch etc since not being used to sitting down all the time .. im used to standing up riding coming from motox background to fmx but on the road there's COPS who love to spoil a sunday ride? So is it legal to stand up while riding ?

That's a good question. I do it, and if I was to be pulled over, I would let them know that I was stretching my legs and not being a hooligan. Not sure about legality issues with it, but I can't remember anything in the riders manual about staying seated.

Big grey area this one. Here in the UK I don't think there is a specific law stating you remain seated, but the cops will have you for not being in proper control of the bike (in their opinion)

Apparently in QLD it's illegal but the rule is vague as coppers seem to get away with it but a few motorcyclist get pinged...l'd say if the boys in blue are into their quota system them you'll probably get fined.
Rest of Australia, it's the same vagueness and they can fine you for not properly controlling a motorcycle...then again various state's motorcycle handbooks state that you should raise yourself a little (define 'little') to absorb bumps or road shock, even a NSW handbook shows NSW solo's demonstrating the technique.

I used to stand to stretch on my CBR929. Would never of thought this would be illegal.
Never heard of this in the US. Makes me feel better riding off road only where I can do whatever I want whenever I want within reason of course.

We need laws in society, the only problem is that the government tends to keep piling them up. I think for each new law there should be one removed. I will not hold my breath.

I mean I understand for a second but are you cruising down the interstate standing up? I don't think any cop would have a problem if you stood up for a few seconds but your opening yourself up for a pull over to check for other stuff if you just want to cruise around town standing up....

all this subject to local road laws.

...and what kind of day the cop is having. I have stood up on the Electra Glide after long hours in the saddle, or sometimes I'll slide up onto the passenger seat to get a little stretch. I certainly stand up while DS riding but choose carefully on when I do it on the street because I feel like more of a target being on a plated dirt bike.

Why would you want too
So you can de weight the front on the up of a speed hump and loft the front!
Why else would you stand up? To see over the car in front to over take, to look into feilds is amazing the sights available from a higher stance.

In Oregon, you'll be contacted if you're flying down the highway in the meerkat position.

You will generally not be contacted if you stand up to surmount an obstacle, or to stretch for a moment.

There is statute here that prohibits being in other than the "operators position" and yet the Oregon Motorcycle Manual specifically states to stand up to surmount an obstacle in the roadway - which I have successfully used as a defense exhibit in traffic court.

Virtually every states laws are very close to that.... why you would want to go down the interstate standing is beyond me.... "Looking around" I'm to busy watching the retards in cars trying to kill me.... I fully understand speed bumps, dips, or get blood flowing back to your legs and arse....

Ok, in California, as a PO we will not hassle you standing up. I see it all the time and have never pulled anyone over for standing. If screwing around...wheelies, etc...then yes you will be pulled over. At speed in traffic standing would not be advised and could be PC for a traffic stop especially for very long periods of time. Common sense would apply here, but like in any profession there are over zealous traffic specific patrols that may contact you but I cant think of a CVC section that would even apply. I stand at times for short periods of time and never in traffic or at highway speeds.

I'm bad. I've stood on the pegs for long periods at speed while eating up long boring road sections. Back road highways on my super tenere. I've done some long days and having very long legs, cramps are a real problem. If traffic becomes an issue, I sit back down. I personally don't worry about the police since I'm not showboating or being a hooligan. If I get pulled over, we can chat about it and if the officer feels I deserve a ticket, que sera, sera
