• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Staintune Exhaust System

I would love to see close-up of the mounts and the heat shield. Original factory shields are somehow not that bad. I need to screen my luggage from the exhaust.

It looks like they are fitted on the last picture and the other pics show the mounting pads. As the can is longer, there is an unshielded portion at the rear.
I wonder if they utilise the front hanger mount? I have noticed that no aftermarket slip-on uses these which suspends weight on the header pipe. One upside is that the aftermarket can will be lighter than the factory unit however it will still be subject to the same riding conditions.

It does use the front mount. Best aftermarket fitment I have seen.
I'll wait to see more pictures of the install before being totally confident of this. I agree you can see the post for the hanger next to the mount but would like to see a picture from the LHD side of the bike looking under the mudguard.
I reckon they're going to be busy building these kits as it's a great looking can. Can't wait for the sound bites.

Quirky, since I made my own panniers and kept them nice and close to the original exhaust I would be very interested in how much fatter the can is compared to the original, mine sits extremely close to the heat shields. also did they give you a weight.

My pannier racks were homemade with only around a 1/8" clearance from the oem heatshields. The circular dimensions of the oem vs the staintune oval cans are very similar with the length being the biggest difference. It appears to me that the new oval may be fitted slightly more straight up and down, this should keep it closer to the bike. My rack still needs only 1 small modification because the rear pannier cross bar that also supports our piss weak tail assembly was basically lined up by eye and tacked together in line with the bottom edge of the original pipes projectory.

It will be fantastic to get rid of the dual setup and all of that heat that radiates from those cats.

Cheers,

Q

Oh dear, some potential bad news to report! :( Latest news is that it's more work than previously thought and the price now maybe going up. Will have to wait and see. Meetings and calculations need to be finalised.
Staintune are going to trial a power bomb set up which allows the gases to expand a little sooner. If it works out this should equal more performance, less noise and probably the reason for the price increase.

Hi Quirky
Is your bike ever coming home !
Thanks for the sacrifice.

Cheers
Biff

Thanks, Biff.
Trust me at this point in time, I am a little disappointed and a bit over it.
I am still being polite and happily providing service with a smile, which is unusual and totally out of character. I can only pray that it will be worth it.

If I had my time over again, would I organise a pipe build again?
NEVER

Thanks, Quirky. I hope Staintune have made it worth your time. There are a couple of us in Canberra that are interested.

Well the phone call that was going to confirm me getting my bike back tomorrow didn't happen. Becoming a really really bad habit and yet another promise not kept. Don't think that I've got anytime to retrieve my bike for a couple of weeks now. Turns out they are really making it worth my while as I'll save around 15 percent on the purchase price.

Cheers,

Ok the week long pipe build took 39 days and it's finally finished.
Passes stationary noise test. Goes a bit harder.
Retail I believe is $850.
My deal got better and I will now pay $500 with the added bonus of my rack actually fits with no modification needed.
I just need another spare day off to go get it as it takes me nearly 5 hours to drive down to the staintune factory. Can't wait to hear it!

Think you'll all like these pictures.

I'm glad they looked after you Q with special pricing as your generosity & patience will derive income for them.
For $850 does it have a front mount e.g. use the hanger set-up that the factory can used? A pic looking from the LHD side under the mudguard would be appreciated.

Good question, from a previous pic it looks like it does have a front mount, however :excuseme:
When I pick my bike up I'll happily let you all know.
For the moment maybe you could contact Staintune directly.

Looks like the "Mega Bomb" expansion is just before the muffler. I presume that's what was required to enable it to pass the sound test and still keep the muffler length within reason. I am so looking forward to a "non stationary" sound clip so we can hear it under load!

I certainly hope you're happy with Staintune's final product after such a long wait.

Thanks again for your sacrifice, Quirky.
