• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Sta-bil Gone Bad

Today I was about to add some Sta-bil to a fuel jug and out of habit I shook the Sta-bil bottle and it sounded like there were rocks in it. I looked closer and it has separated and there are little chunks the size small rocks that look like chunks of rust. I've had this bottle of Sta-bil around for a while but found it very odd that the thing that is supposed to keep my fuel from going bad from sitting around has gone bad from sitting around. Has anyone had this happen to them? What should I buy next time to treat my fuel?

never heard of that but like everything I sure it has a limited shelf life... Or maybe it needs gas to prolong its longevity

First I've heard of that happening. Any estimates on age of it besides 'a while'? I've had bottles of Sta-bil around for at least 3 years, no problems yet.

I wish I could remember when I bought this particular bottle. I have moved twice in 4 years and can't remember if I was out and bought new or if an old bottle followed me in the move. Besides, who knows how long it sat on the shelf before I bought it.

I have seen the red formula end up with little crystals in it once in a while. I used it anyway. But lately, I have switched to the blue marine formula which is supposed to work better in the ethanol laced gasoline that we have out here in California.

these days I've been using a Lucas Oils product that stabilizes the fuel & keeps the ethanol from screwing up the fuel system

if i cant remember when i bought an open bottle of Stabil, i just ditch it. seems to change color quickly too (darker). i dont trust it for long after it's been exposed to air. they say 2 years shelf life after open if capped/stored properly.

last few seasons i've switched to StarTron. i also use Seafoam for water issues now and then

Don't really need the stuff in Oz.Fuel seems to stay ok for about 2 months. Also only have one fuel with ethanol. The others are higher octane ie 95 and 98 and they keep for ages.
As an aside the Ducatis in America are having issues with their tanks expanding and distorting due to ethanol. Try to keep away from that rubbish. Tests indicate that overall it is not as green as high octane gas anyway
