  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Spring and Fall Oil Recommendations

I don't think mine has ever experienced single digit temps. I use 15w-50, 10w-50, 10w-60 year round.
I like Olive Oil as well because after an oil change you can cook with it so nothing gets wasted...:D

So tempting... Okay, I'm over it. ;)
Let me rephrase the question ;) I am a first time Husky owner...last bike I had was when I was a kid...1981 YZ 80. Technology and resources have changed a bit since then ;). I just recently purchased this bike used and have gone over it as well as I could and am looking for some solid advice on some topics that can be common sense to seasoned riders. Question should have been posed like this....SO, When I hope to ride my bike in a couple of months the temperature outside will most likely be like 5-10 degrees celcius. If I were to perform an oil change, first for storage, and second for early season rides....what would you guys recommend. Understand all those living in california, Pheonix etc....would have a hard time commenting due to more pleasurable riding temps. How about you Northern guys/gals? Owners manual inticates AGIP Racing 4T (10W 60). Appreciate your experienced feedback:)

For storage its not too critical, especially if you are just gonna warm it up and drain it before you ride.

I would stay at or very close to the recommended viscosity even in cold temps. The clearances in the engine are designed for a multi viscosity oil that will have properties of 60wt. at running temps. Also might want to go full synthetic so you don't have to worry about clumping or sludge.

Not sure what brands are available in the great white north but I know we have lots of Canadians around here.

Thanks for the input ;) Previous owner gave me a bottle of Motul 4T 10W 40 full synthetic. Will use this in spring. Just finished starting this baby up and letting her warm up...look forward to this ritual every weekend ;) What are your thoughts of Fuel stabilizer...if I keep starting it every weekend should this be suffice? Thanks in advance

I use Motul petroleum base 20 50 down here in sunny Cali. I always use Stabil Marine formula in my fuel, and drain the carb float bowl after every ride.

Why use 10W40 if the manual calls for 10W60? You are not going to get better cold temp flow, as the lower viscosity numbers are the same. When the engine is warmed up, the oil doesn't care what the ambient temperature is. How cold are you going to be riding anyway?

Great point Mike. Never thought of it from that angle before. Correct me if I interpret your response wrongly....essentially....warm-up is key. Ensure a proper warm up and then maintain the recommended 10w60? Perhaps previous owner was using the 10w40 due to Rekluse requirements? Not sure..have yet to really ride this since purchase and will wait until conditions are 100% favourable for that inaugural ride ;)

Congrats on your Husky. I agree the tolerances in your engine should support required weight.

Me, I have always run like a VP race fuel, etc... In all my 4 strokes. You may have to tweek a jet or two, but mine seem to start easier, better throttle response, oxygenated,etc..... I know the VP I am using has long shelf life.
Might be an option to compare vs this terrible pump gas that goes bad quick. Definately use a stabilzer in it.

Also, I am a big fan of running Seafoam in a tank of gas now and then to condition/clean stuff.
