• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Speedo Died, sort of.

OK, I got a weird one.

Today I was at a stop and I switched the mode on the dash to display time.

Sometime after that I noticed my Speedometer died (2008 610 @ 782 miles on it). the Panel works, it just displays '0' All the time. I changed the mode back to Tach but it still displays '0'.

However, here's the weird part, the odometer is still working! WTF!?

Aren't they fed by the same pickup on the front brake? Any Ideas what could be going on?

Yes the speedo needs a reboot. Unplug the neg terminal on the battery and let it sit for about a minute, them plug it back in and try it. Most of the time this works but sometimes it's only a temp. fix.
Unlike many I've had pretty good luck with the factory ride computer but I'm not in love it. I don't like the fact that you can't switch screens on the fly and to say that it's not user friendly would be generous.

Thanks for the help. That's really lame.:banghead:

Yeah, I'm astounded that when the reserve comes on I change to the trip screen and can't reset the trip to know how many miles I've gone til I run dry:excuseme:.

So I guess the solution is a vapor?

or stop for a quick second and THEN reset the trip.... unless that 20 seconds of time is a deal breaker for you.. :excuseme:

sure the stock puter isnt the best but what bike out there has the best of EVERYTHING stock..

I've had to reset my puter a couple of times also. I've also lost HALF the dash once, which eneded up being a blown fuse after a couple deep Baja water crossings.... Ohh the price we pay for 50 state plateable race bikes...:p

It's not a deal breaker, but it is a pretty big deal. I live in Los Angeles, and usually when it happens I'm in the Far left HOV lane on a 5 lane freeway, and you actually can't move over for a half mile or so, and then you gotta merge in bumper-to-bumper traffic moving at 75 MPH, get off the freeway. Often you can't get back on easily, even more often, you really don't wanna get off the freeway and explore the neighborhood, many are REALLY not good.

To be fair it's not such a huge issue since I figured out there's really not much reserve on reserve anyway. When it comes on I start lookin for gas like now. on the Dakar I had at least 40 miles (tested), so I needed to really know when I'd gone 35

On the husky it came on when I was close to home on the freeway. I ran out the next morning going to the station. I **THINK** it was like 15-20 miles but I dunno for sure.
