• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Speedo 630 Sms - Repair / Open ???

Mike.630

Hi guys,

my friend just brought me a 630 SMS from 2011 with a completely dead dashboard / speedo. Before dying completely, my friend told me that it had condensation under the display and also some function were not always working fine.
So I too it off and I wanted to ope it to dry it out and see if I can do something.
But I could not crack it open so far...
Any advices on how to open it and if its even worth opening it?
I have to say, I saw some water drops come out of one hole of one of the small screws... In my opinion there is nothing I can do any more but I need to try.

By the way, since I took the speedo off the bike, the bike won't start any more!!!
Even if I plug it back in, nothing. The motor rotates, but its not firing. The day before it did run without any issue.....
Could there be a link between these 2 issues?
I checket the fuses but They are all OK. Need to check the spark plug but I have no tool that fits. Need to borrow it somewhere.

Thanks

Had a similar issue.
You gotta remove the moisture from the dash.
Put the dash in a bag of rice for 5+ days to dry the speedo out.
Also blow out the plugs and connectors before re assembling.

Mine died too, came to life a few times and then died again. It can be opened, but its glued together (atleast TE was). Cleaned completely with electrical cleaner and left it open to dry. Works now like it should, with some scars...
Its not water tight from under,so moisture can get inside no matter what.
630 does run without speedo,so your symptoms MAY relate to each other. I beat helps....

In facts the case is glued. On this video it seems very easy to open. Mine instead is far from easy to open, I tried but I am worried I could break it if I force it...
What I did so far is to take the 4 screws away (small screws on the back). Some moisture came out of one hole.... Then I put it in the rice. This was last Wednesday (4 days ago). I am going to wait 1 week.
If it still doesn't work, then I will continue to try and open it.
An other option os to give it to some specialist to open it.
I will give you an update
