• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Source for Socket Head Torx fasteners....ideally stainless?

Lost my first Torx fastener (it seems the front axle is temperamental about even torque across the 2 pairs of bolts). Ideally, I'd like to build a supply of Torx fasteners and not switch to regular hex....but I'm having trouble sourcing them online....especially stainless steel.

Somebody have a SPECIFIC online source URL of....say a half dozen (not 100) Socket Head M6x25mm T30x25mm Torx (stainless if possible, but not a deal breaker) as an example? If I can find that one--then likely other size and lengths would be offered.

Yes, yes I know about Grainger, McMaster-Carr, and several others...and specifying only torx, socket head, metric....I'm not seeing anything. If you know they have them...what specific address?

Thanks. I'd rather not have to start switching to hex socket heads.

(Edit) To be clearer about requirements:
  • Torx
  • Socket Head
  • Quantity less than 100
  • U.S. source
  • Stainless (nice, but not required)
  • Specific URL to required fasteners or at least URL to an example of one.

I've use the local Fastenal before for metric torx. A bit expensive and it took awhile to deliver.
But non the less they got what I wanted.

Still looking for a specific URL of a current product....past tense stuff doesn't really do me any good. Thanks.

This is what RuggedExposure found.

Yes, I realize they're in a 100-pack.
Yes, I realize you said that you weren't interested in things in that quantity.

Most companies aren't going to invest the time in shipping a single bolt. That's not to say that they're not out there---I'm sure somebody will ship you a single bolt. Or 6 of them.
However, 100-packs exist as part of something called volume sales, and that's what makes it worth their time and effort to store, pull, package, and ship small parts.

Have you tried, I dunno, a big hardware store, where you can pick and choose these things yourself?

Its not an online supply house but Mt Hood Fasteners in PDX, OR specialize in out of the norm fasteners, especially SS.

Sorry---:)
I don't mean to be a bitch, but it always annoys me when people on the mainland bitch about not being able to find things.
YOU DO NOT LIVE ON AN ISLAND.

I live on an island (but TazzieRob will tell you I live on the mainland and he lives on an island)

I did not buy a 100-pack from Fastenal. 12 or so at best. I'll ask where he got them, maybe he had a different source than Fastenal themselves.

That's why I posted this thread. If anybody has specific knowledge I'm hoping they'll post up. Other posts are just really noise. :)

Yes and no local places including Tacoma Screw carry them. Tacoma has even fulfilled stainless orders for me for 1 or 20 stainless hex cap head, but no on Torx.

I was specific in my first post very deliberately. :) I appreciate your DESIRE to help, but now that we've posted a dozen off-topic posts or so...to really help would be to not post anymore unless you have an online source as described.

Have you considered OEM from a dealer? I was investigating 1 specific screw/bolt from Husqvarna and it seemed that one was available and reasonably priced.
Yeah, but that's not my question. I'm looking to build a bolt box for more than just my motorcycle and several friends with BMWs...but not 100 of everything. If nobody has a link--that's fine! But I'm really only interested in online sources for this exercises.

Part of the reason I'm doing this is that I've seen people in various other forums claim sources litter the internet, but nobody ever seems to cite an actual source. I'm starting to believe its a myth. :)

I've tried my local Fastenal before...they looked at me funny when I tried to buy less than 100.
