  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Some questions on the Husky TE310

Husqvarna
After a few years with a DRZ400E, I have decided on a Husky probably the TE310, I just had a couple of questions as conflicting answers seem to come up online...

- On the TE310 which years used the 450 chassis etc and therefore made the bike a lot heavier?
- I am thinking about a 2011 model and the weight in some reports seems 234lbs dry which is great up to the tanky DRZ!
- Seat height, apparently changed at some point or was this just on the 250 TE?

I am basically 6'2" and 210lbs and find the DRZ400 a well heavy bike and want rid, I am hoping this to be a lighter far more better bike with not too much maintaining if I get a fairly new 2011 plate.

Thanks

Hey hows it going:) I have a 2012 TE310 and had a DR650 before this bike. I know what a Porky bike feels like and I can tell you that the 2011 TE310 won't disappoint you. The 2011 and 2012 are essentially the same with some cosmetic differences. I rode some practice enduro loops last night with a group of KTM's and 2 other Husky riders. One of the guys had a 2011 TE310 and other than frame color paint and graphics our bikes were identical. I say go for it you will love the TE off road for sure. It is amazing in the woods if geared right. I am running 13/50 and might go up a couple on the rear. On road will suffer but it sounds like you want a better off road bike and the TE310 is that bike. Good luck:cheers:

P.S. I am tall too (6'4") and 240lbs geared up, this bike is great for my size.

Not sure about all the details of the transition from the older motors to the X-lite, but based on everything I know - the x-lite bikes have been improved each and every year. 2013 TE310 is the redhead ( keihin ), and it seems there could be some great deals out there with some great financing.

The earlier x-lites had Mikuni, though I do not know the exact details for each model for each year (te250, te310, txc250?, txc310, tc's...)

I have a TE250 2010 and it's a great bike, a 310 is basically same with a little more power.

You did mention "with not too much maintaining".. comparatively speaking to a DRZ - you will be maintaining it a lot more. But other then that, they are fun bikes for sure.

Thanks for the replies... I am thinking a 2011 anyhow on a couple I have seen... with regard to service as I will just be using for green laning and some trails in Wales, how often for valve checks etc, as is this easy to do? Also when buying second hand say a 2011 what life expectancy of the engine before a rebuild if was well looked after and serviced?

The DRZ400E was like dragging an anchor around, great bike on road but knackering offroad and so heavy, I think this one is around 60lbs lighter which is a fair bit!

Thanks

I had a KLX400R (same as DRZ400E) now own a 2011 te310. Much happier with the Husky. Weight difference may be only 32 pounds (60 pounds lighter then DRZ400S) the 310 feels way lighter, and it holds its weight lower in the chassis. far superior handling and seems like more power. I was always washing out the front end on the klx. Rear swing arm on the husky will require service more frequently, especially the shock drop link. Oil change every 10h with such a small capacity sump with no magnet, are required, but it just dosent seem to be a issue for added all around performance the husky offers. I have seen reports of the x-light 310 engine going over 6000kms with no issues or oil consumption.
I don't miss the KLX.

I have a 2011 TE310 (first year X-lite 310), and I used to have a 2004 DRZ400.

I used to ride that DRZ HARD, and put it away wet. Practically bulletproof and lazy maintenance schedule. Be prepared to adopt a more strict PM regimen with the TE. They deserve it. Don't worry, the X-lites are a breeze to work on. Free shop manuals available online.

To be honest, the 2011 x-lites have their share of issues. E-starter, fuel pump and temp sensor issues top the list. But these nits do NOT affect all the 2011's. But here's the deal: all the issues have been dealt with by us early X-lite adopters on CafeHusky. If you have a problem, we've got your back.

The close-ratio gearbox is an issue for many dual-sporters. You either gear it for street, or you gear it for dirt. There's no in-between.

Then there's the elephant in the room. These bikes are no longer being produced. New owners KTM may or may not continue to produce or support these bikes. Just sayin'.

The following affect North American units, Wales may be unaffected due to regional emissions regulations, etc.-

The 2011's run poorly unless a "power-up" is performed. This bypasses the O2 sensor, switching the ECU to another profile and enabling 2 terrain settings via the blue button on the bars. Software to reset the TPS is necessary for this step. iBeat is available at you dealer or you can own it yourself.

I also upgraded the ECU and injector port to TXC specs. This makes 2011's come alive. Instant, flawless throttle response. Worth every penny.

OK NOW THE GOOD NEWS! It's aaaaaaaaaall worth it. My x-lite is nimble, responsive, willing, snappy, strong, precise, balanced, light and will not ever hold me back. If I'm not in front it's not the bikes fault. I can ride it at 8/10 all day and not be tired. I DREAM about the braking on this thing. It's tossable! Never too much of anything, never intimidating, but always capable of anything. It lets me ride better, faster and more confident every time I'm on it.

Yes, I had to replace my faulty fuel pump. And now I follow closely the maintenance schedule. I use an ethanol treatment and fuel stabilizer with each fill up. And here at 120 hours, my bike is still in top shape! No issues at all. I've procured a winner. I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.

Due to the recent KTM buyout, do not buy one of these unless you shop around! Here in the states they are blowing out new 2013's for $2000 off (!)

Sounds great, thanks for the input... I just missed a great priced 2011 on ebay, gutted!

With the 250 version, is there a year these had the x-ite engine put in and I did hear the seat was lower too?

For 250 - year was 2010 and up for xlite.. and I think for 310 it's 2011 and up. I know my 2010 250 is an x-lite engine , not too sure about the 310s.

Were you riding the DRZ400 S not E? I have ridden a 2001 DRZ-E and the weight wasn't too severe as the S version (E = off road , S = dual sport / street )..

If you are in the market to buy a TE, and money ain't a big issue, maybe buying a 2013 model would be worth it as there been some good improvements in those models. Good luck.
