• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Some of the pros and hopefuls were at the local track last night...

With Washougal this weekend the local track in Portland has a big pro payout and qualifying for Washougal. This bring piles of people out and it is a spectacle. This happens the Thursday before the nationals and so it was last night. Was fantastic. Super fast dudes going big with the lightening storm back drop was VERY cool. We had a summer lighting storm roll in and provided a BLACK sky back drop with tons of lighting strikes while the main was running. Was really cool. Real fun evening of race wating. Saw all the usual suspects out there and Jake was taking a bunch of pix with the good cam so check PBJ.com for those.

Yes, they were going big and doing some amazing stuff. The talent level was very high.

Ok, that's way too high! :)

Cool shots Kelly!

#57 Jake Canada

#54 Weston Peick

#71 Kevin Rookstool

That jump is NUTS!! During practice I was standing under it taking pictures, I had to leave it was too much! They knocked down the takeoff and landing to make it a touch more forgiving.

I will try to post some of my pictures later.

Until then here is one from another local photographer, he rules! This is Mike Horban, he crashed on this jump during practice it was scary. I figure this is 2 full seconds of hang time plus a little.

Later,

very cool,Don in parts went says it was awesome.Have to remember for next year.By the way Grandprix race at Albany Mx this ASunday should be fun.

Yeah seemed like they were hanging in the air forever. Crazy F-ers. I took those with a $19 Goodwill cam :D

Most in the pro class were doing it. Seems like they were almost high as the jump was long. It was pretty sick.

Fortunate opportunity to get a good view of "those" guys.
Weston is the "local" SoCal privateer riding out of a van, big dude with solid Nat speed. He has done well as a stand in on a number of top tier teams and finished top ten up there.
What you guys got to see puts into the perspective the exponential difference from what we view as our local zone/district fast guys vs Nat/International top tier fast guys, and to think that Dungey smoked these guys......(Alessi too) so there are even multiple tiers of speed/talent among those guys as well.

Yes the level of talent is far greater than the usual fast guys there which are impressive themselves.

I ride every know and then with a group that includes Weston's dad.... Weston has to physically be one of the biggest pro riders out there and is still very fast...If I would peg him at about 6' 1" 190 to 200 .... he is the one that landed on Ryan Morais? and Trey Canard when they tangled up earlier in the year in SX and ultimately took Weston out ...has done well enough to keep getting enough sponsors to keep him going and running out of that Sprinter Van he has... Weston and his dad are good people.

I saw him absolutely smoking the european riders on the big uphill triple jumps at Glen Helen at practice at the FIM World GP MX at Glen Helen until the motor on his KX450 blew up...

As Robert aptly describes above the local SoCAl fast guys down here absolutely anihilate the slower riders and these riders anihlate them....

There is always somebody better, quicker , faster....working harder

Robert - do you ever run into Jake Oswald down there in your area .. Alpine???

Tim,
Nope I dont know Jake ( but here is his helmet cam at the Marty Smith track opener). He catches up to me at 1:40 coming into the left turn under the trees hairpin then he passes me in the air while Im weenie rolling the step up.
View: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MloFSPtp2TU&feature=relmfu

Comparing his speed to all the other H cams from that day, he is way faster than anyone else.
We see and ride with (behind) mostly the off road local fast guys. I can drop a bunch of names of nat/internat level guys we know as well, but not being MX folks we don't see many of the MX folks, most of them really don't like any dust, mud or to scratch their bikes up in the rocks and manzanita.

Jake stands out due to the Miley Cyrus Graphics on his bike... hard to miss. I believe he was in the Heat races at Anahiem 1 SX 450's this year and not sure if he qualified for A2 SX... fast rider... good video and nice catch of seeing yourself in there...

is cool to see some new local MX talent stepping up and getting in there...

This is Barona Oaks track? Looks like a really sweet track!

T

T,
Nope thats the all new Marty Smith MX track at Live Oak Springs East County San Diego.

for dbaz,
I really think I would turn faster lap times on my ex RM125 at this track. 125s are the ticket for track riding (at least for my skill level they are). I really want to get another one eventually.
