• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

It's the last legal month here in Southern California to ride red sticker bikes, so Jeff and I packed our two stroke bikes out to Pine Valley and rode over to Corral Canyon last Saturday. The weather was unseasonably cool and a heavy drizzle prevailed for most of the day, so it made for almost perfect riding conditions. Jeff got a bunch of video footage, some better than others and got the last of it posted last night, so I chose one of the best clips of some of the legal trail system at Corral Canyon to present here. We aren't moving too fast, so no exciting racing action. You can't just blast the trails anyway, because of oncoming traffic and poor visibility. But the trails are sort of technical and scenic, require your attention and give the rider a fair workout. And the rocks are as big as houses.:D and the smell of the sage brush in the damp air is wonderful.

Nice! Looks like great conditions with lots of nice flow. I dig all the rock slab...that's what I'm seeing, right?

That's correct. In the middle of the video, we are riding down a long hunk of pretty solid rock about acre size. All that whitish looking stuff is granite.

So it does rain in southern California! At least it looked like puddles on the ground.

Back in the eighties (when it was easy to get permission to run events at Corral Canyon) the local Observed Trials clubs used to put on quite a few events and some Enduro organizers even held a couple of enduros out there. Sigh....those were the days.:) Back in those days, more trails were open and a lot of them were more technical than they are today. Many have been either closed or rerouted due to environmental issues.
 
i did the side winder enduro there and trophied 250 vetb, that was most likely the last organized moto/enduro event there. That was the only place I used to ride,,,oncoming traffic on lots of blind corners scares me so I don't visit very often now and as you said the trails are alot more user friendly now. Some that were rocky rutted steep and tough are like I-5 now!! Riding very early or weekdays must be the ticket,,,
a couple years ago I also did an epic night ride there as well,the Niterider crew showed up and "sponsored" a few of us with hid systems for the evening, that was very cool.
Hope to ride with your crew/group one of these days for some trail punting good times**************************************** (really no offense) R

I rode the Hornytoad High Mountain Enduro there. Must have been about October 1985, because I was riding a 1984 Honda XR200R. Probably still had my old KDX250 and hadn't quite gotten my 1986 KDX200 C1 yet. Don't remember how I did in the event. I just remember that it was the dustiest enduro that I ever rode; so dusty that I crashed into downed riders right in front of me that I couldn't even see in front of my front fender!:eek:

I think that they groom the trails for quad riders and for those mountainbike events.

Maybe, I will see you tomorrow at McCain.:D
 
whoa OCT85,,,,, I was still riding (parked in storage) my KDX200 (bought new in 84).

Did not make Lark/McC on Sat arrived with my 2 girls on Sun morn and we had a nice day (dust season has begun).

I ended up not being able to get out to McCain over the weekend, but need to get out there before it permanently gets hot for the summer. I guess we won't have a chance for any more rain this year, except for a few summer thunderstorms. Maybe, I will catch you next time.
 
PS... it was @75 and breezy. I did not know it was blazin in the lower altitudes.
we had a nice ride day, all the kids are just rippin its fun to watch and lead them on rides.
