    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Snapped handlebar

Has anyone else snapped their stock Husky handlebars in half? I was told they are pretty tough bars, but not tough enough I guess.

A note to others-- make sure you carry a 12mm with you. Had I not the right tool, I'd have been SOL in a bad spot. I was able to slide the left side of the bars outward, and push the right (snapped) side in enough to make the bars work pretty well. :thumbsup:
 
We were exploring new trails. I went down a steep downhill into a muddy water crossing and managed to find a 4" diagonal branch stuck in the mud.....I swear someone planted it there. There was no bark on it, and it was just along enough to cover the 2' wide crossing. My buddies thanked me for being the first one down.
I really don't know how it snapped, because I flew off the trail to the left, and the bike fell to the left as well; the bars snapped at the right connection point. When I hit, I heard a loud "snap", and when I looked up, my bars were hanging all sad looking.
I have a feeling that the bars were stressed from some other hard hits, and decided they'd had enough.
 
I think the stock Tomaselli's are a real quality product. I have had a lot of get offs without bending or breaking. I guess you might have hit pretty darn hard.
 
Just where did it snap on the bars.. outside clamp area ?? metal, glass and plastic are good items that break after a score or cut line..

Some time where bars slip in the clamps or are rotated with pressure from the top clamps they make the first cut to start the motion. Just like a pipe cutter would

Wow that's a bummer. Glad you're not hurt other than pride.

My issue with the Tomaselli's is not strength or ergo's. It's their funky I.D. which has to be drilled out to fit a hand guard. Why an "underdog" manufacturer would make their product more work to set up than their much more established competitors... I just don't know.

I'm sure you're aware to make sure the bar clamps don't have any sharp edges when mounting aluminum bars. Reckon it'd work like a tubing cutter over time. So check those bar mounts on the way back together.

Yes, outside right side (throttle side) of the clamp. That so happens to be the side that was slightly bent the previous weekend, and took a heavy shot this weekend after getting cross rutted on a hill climb.

I've ordered some new fat bars, so hopefully they will last me a little longer than the stock ones.

I shouldn't be, but am surprised. I figured that plenty of others would have jumped on here and said that they'd had the same thing happen.
 
When I was at the Husky booth at the Toronto Motorcycle Show a guy was talking about having the same thing happen to him.

I don't know any specifics, but remember him mentioning it.
 
Maybe you caught the bar with your knee as you flew across and over? I remember one guy here said he broke the crossmember that holds the bar down....

I've never even bent a bar on my Huskies much less broke one ...
 
Yes, I know a guy on TT, has a 07 TE450 and the bar snapped on the left outside the clamp. He loosened the bars and slid them in and re-clamped to get home. Stress is the factor, many get offs will do in any bar.
