  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi,
I have problem with my SMR510 MY2008. Bike is 4800km on odo, an this is what is heaped.

Bike is never opened before except for valve checking, oil is changed every 1000km. Even now (before opening) bike is running good. Reason for opening is strange grinding noise from bottom part of engine.

If somebody have any suggestions where should I look for the problem. Damage on cylinder is well touchable under fingers. Can I reuse this piston, first i should sandpaper damages? All suggestions are welcome.
Sorry for my English but it is not my native language.

I think the problem with the oil line in the head and the scuffed piston/cylinder are probably unrelated. The scuffing is likely caused by your rod bearing starting to fail, sending shards of metal into the piston/cylinder area causing the scuffing. That motor, in my opinion needs a full rebuild. Cases split, crank rebuilt with a new rod and bearing, and if your going to go that far you might as well get a new piston and have your cylinder honed or replated depending on how badly damaged it is.

I wonder if that oil transfer pipe was installed backwards. It does have a slight bend to make sure that it clears the cams. Seems like that would have been evident right away, though.

i have the same broken oil pipe in my bike except mine broke on the exhaust cam side of my engine i have the 09 te 510 with about 4200 miles on it i believe change my oil every 3-4 off road rides and prolly 7-8 road rides like 4hrs of woods or 8 hrs of road

Defiantly conrod bearing is gone, I still did not split engine but there is too many movement on conrod. Other thing is oil pump you can see damage in photo.
Damage on the hole is made by me, during attempt to extract out pump body from housing.

so could the extra vibes of the bad con rod be the cause of the broken oil pipe ? deff worried about taking my lady for long walks in woods with the recent problems looming about ?

If the bike is broken in you shouldn't be finding pieces of metal in your oil. That's a sure sign of trouble. I'd strip her down and check everything out. Better to find a small problem now than have a major bill later. when these engines let go they love to do horrific damage.

damn yeah the particals are small like less then sand and i get an orange goo that sticks to the oil screens? thats all happend since i owned the bikewith 248 mi on it

so bad bearing seem to be the trend my bike is now shot same broken oil pipe same bad bearing id like to find a completely new engine does anyone here know where id start on the purchase of a complete engine
