• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi

I'm having issue with my bike and was wondering whether anyone can help diagnose whats up.

The closest dealer is about 40 miles away and I've no way to get it there. The bikes stuck in the garage at the moment.

I had some issues the other day whereby the bike was running rubbish at WOT, The bike would cut out and big like it had hit the rev limiter, It wasn't hitting the limiter however.

I stripped the bike down and replaced the fuel and fuel filter, cleaned the air filter and went on a test ride. The bike was back to normal and just put it away in the garage.

I've gone to ride this morning and the bike just wont start.
Have pulled the fuel hose off and checked there's fuel being pumped when trying to start.
I've pulled the injector body off the jug and checked theres fuel from the injector nozzle however not sure what the correct spray pattern should look like.
Anyone got a video ? or I can film mine.

I've bought one of these replacement pumps off ebay so will wait for that to turn up (LINK)

Checked for a spark with a spare plug (Waiting to get plug socket to pull the one in the bike)

I've connected an optimate to the battery and that's charging now.

I'm stuck at what else could be the cause.

The battery's in these bike can cause them to run arratic and so symptoms like this. When you check them you get a reading showing good voltage on the bat, but its false and only o e cell is good. Try a new battery.

Cool, worth a shot they are cheap enough.

I did get back from work today to find the optimate had a red light on meaning that it's not maintaining the battery.
Ill grab one from Halfords tomorrow and update.

Replacement Fuel pump turned up yesterday which has got the bike up and running again.
Had to go and buy a new fuel filter and some fuel injection hose as the stuff inside the tank was going to be difficult to re-use.

Has anyone used one of the Felco pumps on their bike before ? What were your thoughts ?
I still need to connect the JD Tuner back to the bike but since fitting this replacement pump the bike doesn't feel as smooth to ride.
I'm hoping that will sort the issue out, hope to get it fitted tonight / tomorrow evening (But gotta do some overtime :( )

Saga continues :(

Saw that someone else was having issues with the Felco fuel pump so I have ordered another replacement pump from High Flow pumps.
Cycleworks didn't have any stock and the chap with the 450 said this replacement pump fixed his issues.

The problem is that since fitting the Felco pump, I have gone to go run some fuel additive // cleaner through the bike and it wont start again.
I've had the Throttle body off again to check if we could clean out the injector but the screws holding the rail on are mega tight.
I think we are going to have to drill them out :(

Here's a video of the fuel coming from the Injector, I would have thought it would be more like a mist.
Video Here

Can anyone comment on whether that looks like it should ?

Replacement pump from HighFlow should turn up in the next day or so, I'll get that fitted.
This is getting to be a real pain.

Can anyone comment on whether that looks like it should ?

That's not right, should be a nice fanned out spray.

Check and make sure you have the " out " line on the fuel pump attached good and tight with no leaks, the pressure the pump is generating could be spewing out the line and not be a bad pump.

Heya Pine

Yeah the lines are connected properly from the Bottom of the tank to the Throttle Body.

Out - goes to the Injector
In - From the Return / pressure reg to the tank

Anyone else had an issue with a Knackered injector ?
I've seen some vids on youtube on how to test them with a 1.5v Battery and pressured tank.
I would test it but I just can't get those screws out (Any tips ?)
I've tried an manual Impact driver but don't want to hit it too hard as I might damage the TB.

May have to drill the bloody things out and use an easy-out.

Still waiting for this pump to turn up, looks like it might have been caught up in customs by the delay :(

 Update

The HighFlow pump finally turned up (Got stuck in Customs  )
I've fitted it tonight and the bike is better than ever! The OE fuel pump must have been failing for a while as the bike never felt that enthusiastic! It would barely lift the front even with a good yank of the bars on power.

The bike is literally a different animal! She wants to wheelie everywhere now :D 3rd gear coming out of a corner and it's lifting the front!

Moral of the story

Don't touch the Felco pumps from eBay. They just aren't suited for the job.
Trying to organise a refund now as it's packed up now.

I know this is an old thread but I bought a new pump from high flow and the bike started, ran for a few seconds then died. Any ideas on where to go from here?

Funny enough -- had the same problem with a mates bike --new pump runs and dies --- eventually bought a pump from cycleworks --20,000 km later --still going strong

Strange that in my mind I thought --New Pump --It CAN'T be the pump that's faulty --but it was --

DynoBob, No the original problem was that the fuel pump stopped working. It failed to cycle the necessary pressure needed to start the bike. It wouldn't cycle the pressure when you turned the key on.

Blazes, I bought a pump from Ca Cycleworks too, it started and ran but it wouldn't idle right and would backfire when I tried to roll on the throttle to get it to stay running. That pump eventually died too.

This is a pic of my 630 pump but I believe yours is similar in principal. The arrow is pointing at a pressure regulator (I think) that lets fuel return to the tank. I wonder if yours has failed open?
