    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Six times Dakar finisher, Simon Pavey - Chief Instructor at BMW Off Road Skills in the UK is making his ninth attempt on the Dakar. The Delta Kuststoffe Husqvarna UK Racing team is headed by Simon and along with co-rider Canadian Don Hatton, the team are campaigning a pair of Husqvarna TE449SPR.

Sad day yesterday as Team Delta Kunststoffe Husqvarna UK rider, Canadian Don Hatton was force to retire after a collision with a truck. Still on course at 1:00am with no lights, no navigation and the bike buried Don was forced to concede and retire. For the full story and latest photos please follow this link

Sounds like a valiant effort to keep going after the collision ... Here's wishing DH a fast recovery from any injuries he might have sustained ..
 
Lots of coverage of Don Hatton in this video showing him and his bike at the crash scene. It's heartbreaking to see him lying in the sand by his bike and coming to the realization that it's over.

Simon Pavey – “Today was brutal. The stage was very physical and I had a problem with my road book again; it’s the fourth day in a row. It seems alright in the bivouac and then it just stops.

I just had one of those days, nothing went well. I missed my initial start time due to trying to fix the road book and then had to ride hard to make the special stage. I was riding well, but it’s awkward to adjust the road book by hand and ride difficult terrain. You can manage well if it’s hard packed and fast, but when the riding is tricky you have to stop to advance it.

I caught some other guys in the stage and we made a small mistake with the nav. It took us up a really difficult streambed, I was hauling the bike around lots and it used a substantial amount of energy. From then on we had a mixture of off-piste riding through the thorn brush and dunes. I was able to ride quickly in the dunes and make up time"

Just to finish that race is a massive achievement, even more so to finish as many times as Pavey has. The race usually finishes more folks than folks finish it!!
