  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Silence please!

Most bikes with a db Dawg lose about 1-2 decibels. It helps a bit but usually isn't the cure for a loud bike.

Well the DB DAWG seems to do what it claims (I notice on the package that they revised the advertised 10db reduction to 6db). I would say that the noise reduction is fairly noticeable, particularly at higher RPMs but the most notable thing is that it cured a minor decel pop that I had been unable to tune out. It doesn't seem to have any appreciable loss of power but I did have to relearn when to shift because I got used to a certain engine sound and now that it's not there I hit hit red line several times, I've always had a little trouble shifting by feel because the power never gives any indication that it is going sign off until you hit the "idiot proof circuit".:busted:

From what I´ve learned so far I think I´ll go with the Arrow since the EFI is supposed to work with this muffler in "open loop".
If I am over 94 dB I´ll put a wire screen on the small db-killer in order to make it look like the US-style spark arrestor.

jlk_250 mentioned that the bigger db-killer did not fit the 08 Arrow (thanks for this information:cheers:). So, if I would still be over 94 dB, I guess I´ll see if I can find a "dB dawg" that fits the Arrow. (Or make something similar myself).

Even if the "db dawg" only would result in a 1-2 db reduction, as Slowpoke mentioned, this could actually be the cure for passing the 94 db sound test.

If I still needs more restrictions in the muffler I´guess might end up with EFI tuning, who knows :excuseme:

So has anyone successfully installed/used a db dawg in a 08 TE 450 with the Arrow power up pipe. If so please let us know which dawg you used, any modifications made to make it fit and if it worked to reduce the noise level.

I emailed DirtWerkz and the following is the response I received:

First response from DirtWerkz.
Sorry it took so long to reply. Currently there is no dB DAWG made specifically for any Husky or Arrow exhaust systems. You might be able to utilize one of the external models. The smallest spark arrestor is 1.5” in diameter and may or may not fit your setup when installed as an external fit.

To determine the best fit for your bike please perform the following;

1 - Measure the outlet diameter of your silencer.

2 - Confirm 2.5" minimum straight in depth to support insert.

3 - Refer to the dB DAWG guides for best fit.

NOTE: When using dB DAWG spark arrestors always measure your silencer as mentioned above and select spark arrestor and dB DAWG accordingly.

dB DAWG Guide and Information page.

If you exhaust outlet is 1.5” diameter and there is at least 2.5” length straight in without bends, screens or other obstructions then the following:

- dB DAWG Model 8001 external fit
- dB DAWG Model 8001SA spark arrestor screen external fit (fit will be close may or may not work)

Second response:
If your end cap is removable then remove the end cap; measure and inspect to see if one of the external or internal versions might work. Remember regarding the spark arrestor you need to add ¼” in size to accommodate the slip on arrestor. See images for the Pro Circuit and Dr D silencers for ideas.

I'm thinking I just need to get my bikes exhaust db tested first. Need to be 96db and under for the Sheetiron 300 DS ride at the end of May. If I'm over then I'll consider purchasing the 8001 db dawg and I'll post my install results.
