    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Hi all, can anyone tell me the part number of the side-stand spring to fit my '88 400WR?
The parts catalogue image shows it as part 13, but the locking nut is also part 13 and the text listing below the image only lists it as a locking nut.
Even dimensions would be helpful, static length etc.
All help appreciated, Tony.
 
15 10 442 02 as I recall, same as the 85 and 86 as memory serves
have some in new parts pile will see these tomorrow and get back to you
 
thanks for starting a new thread about even a simple question. i believe this helps in the future for those doing a search.
overall length is 120mm. diameter of spring body is 15mm...these need to be nice and tight to avoid stand flopping. never had a problem with phils replacement ones, the pic is of NOS.

Thank you, with the parts manual being wrong I wasn't sure if there were any repro ones available, and of course the shipping cost to Australia.
I continually see small low cost items with outrageous shipping charges, $10 item with shipping of $85 usd!
That's why I thought I may be able to find an alternative in Australia.

its the same with us the want to deal with the euro parts suppliers, i just make a list and maybe only order once or perhaps twice a year but get a bigger order to make shipping worthwhile.
i usually crimp the ends closed on the spring so it cant fall off, something that seemed to happen to me alot before i used the proper spring. once you have bikes with kickstands you really dont want to be without..
 
Sorry to hear that, I thought we were the only ones being bent over.
At least the shipping companies are making plenty of money!

I have often wondered if it is the shipping companies or if there is a bit of seller "padding" going on, or perhaps a bit of both?
I recently paid $110 to ship a pipe from an Ebay purchase in Oregon, yet another seller only wanted $29 to ship a heavier standard pipe from Florida??

Shipping charges seem to have increased dramatically over the past 5 years, I have bought a lot of parts from the US over the past 20 years and the shipping charges were always quite reasonable, but I now shudder when I see what some sellers/shippers want to charge, for example, one seller quoted $63 USD ($90 AUD) to mail a needle and seat from the US to Australia, another wanted similar money to mail a base gasket, now I may be a bit out of touch but that just sounds outrageous, particularly since the needle and seat was under 10 bucks US.
I can Air Mail that same item through Australia Post weighing up to one pound in weight to the US for $14.10 AUD ($9.92 US)

I have noticed that Fedex are still quite inexpensive compared to USPS when shipping to Australia, a recent quote for a clutch to be shipped was over $100 US and Fedex were $42!
We are accustomed to Fedex being one of the more expensive shippers, not now it seems.

Perhaps I have just become a tight @r$e as I get older?

We also have problems buying from Euro businesses, most will only ship to EU countries, so a shipping forwarder who supplies a EU address is needed, at a cost.
 
Well if there is a positive to come from this situation, it is that we will exhaust all local possibilities before buying from overseas!

because of the threat of terrorism ALL parcels in the U.S are now scanned and the cost is passed on to the consumer.

Just in case you were ever wondering, HVA-Factory NEVER make money from shipping. DHL sometimes tuck us up with additional 'remote area surcharges' that we have to absorb....

that wasnt directed at you at all...mostly with what the aussies have to go through..
 
No definitely not aimed at you Andy, more US Ebay sellers. Strangely I often find UK shipping costs more reasonable!
 
That's because Australia is part of the commonwealth,

Shipping from Canada to Australia is also cheaper than from the U.S.A

there is definitely padding on US items at times, they are priced low to get you to buy but the shipping charge actually includes the money they really want for it... you see it all the time on smaller items, very cheap but high charges to ship. on VMX website there was some discussion about this and now aussie post has a depot in the US and can ship at std aussie post prices, enquire before being scored with a packing blade....

heck, people do this on ebay shipping from usa to usa, lol..prices have went up the past few years, just shipping things a few states over..
 
you hit the nail on the head, the past few years have changed things
ebay was people getting rid of unneeded stuff, then some sellers moved in and now it's infiltrated with sellers
they will get their money one way or another
i buy watches and parts and they weigh absolutely nothing but the shipment from Australia is 31.50us, from UK about the same, better from France and Deutschland
