  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Shortening 510 exhaust

Pepper

Husqvarna
AA Class
I have a 2006 te 510 that I would like to shorten the exhaust on. I would like to do this for cosmetic reasons, change the exhaust note a little deeper and maybe save a little wieght. I do like the stealth of the bike and would like to keep it quieter. New slip-ons seem to be loud also and it would be better for the budget to modify the stock one.
I have read about people modding this exhaust but removing the restritor at the end capp completly and cutting the exhaust 4.5 " or so. I would like to take 3" at least off the 20" body and cut 3" off the restrictor.
While I don't need more power, I don't want to heart it either. Also concerned about changes in jetting.
Has anybody else done this.
Thanks

Like so?

Disassemble pipe. Put end cap in a lathe and cut the inside out to the larger diameter. Core the outer shell, packing, and inner perforated core in one whack. Powder coat outer shell and end cap. Mark and dril outer shell for rivets. Hammer endcap that will not quite fit in the middle of the pipe in. Also you may have to bend/cut/ flare the inner perforated core to match the hole in the end cap. I think I cut some slits down it and hammered it onto a trailer ball. Stuffed with THICK stainless scouring pads you know the ones in the doughnut shape. Used high temp rtv on the inide of the endcap, riveted it back together.

It was loud but look FANTASTIC! and cost me about 7$. BRAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPP

OHR thanks for the reply. Was going to see what this exhaust mod does to the plug first. I have been through 3 plugs in about 2000 kms. Cleaned the coil ground last summer. Would iridium plugs last longer?

Huskylove thanks also but I am wanting to keep it quieter < 94db so I was thinking of just cutting 3" off the restictor and body. Wasn't sure if cutting grooves or drilling holes in the resticter might be the way to go?

If you are going through plugs you are jetted too rich or burning oil.

My 450 had the same plug the entire time I owned it. And the main jet rattled loose and it was sucking straight fuel into the carb for 15 miles........cleaned the plug, threw the jet in, good as new!

I put 1700 ml in and get about 1650 out and there is usually a lttle in the air box after 8hrs
I will have to work on the jetting
Do you think this much side cover on the airbox would be too restrictiveimage.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Run the vent hose above the subframe cross piece where the cdi/ecu box thingy is. Run it up and over then down, make sure the seat does not pinch it too badly. This will help keep oil out of the airbox. Also run it UP from the rocker cover. Do not run it DOWN. This is how I cured my oil in the airbox when doing long wheelies and such. It worked fantastically and stopped it altogether.

I never had any modifications to the airbox and it was fine. I could recall my 450 smr jetting on supermoto junkie if need be.

Well I answered my own question with some help from Dieselox4's old post in TT.
Cut 3.5 inches off the exhaust and removed 2" of restrictor tube. I also cross drilled 3 3/8" holes in the restictor like seen in arrow dolby reducers.
I am happy now with the look and it doesn't seem much louder. Made the exhaust note a little deeper but it didn't change the sound. I really don't think there be any problems with sound checks or neighbors
( worse).
We have had -20 C tempurtues and a storm tomorrow, so I can't say about performance but I doubt much changed. View attachment 36813 View attachment 36814 View attachment 36815 View attachment 36813 View attachment 36814 View attachment 36815
