  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Tried to ship a 82 CR frame USPS today but was too big, UPS is $135 to go one state away. Don't have Fed Ex here in town. Ideas? $135 seems way out of line.

DHL?

If it's only one state over have the buyer pick it up and or charge him the 135 to ship it to him. No need to eat the cost of shipping, it is what it is.

shipping IS expensive no matter what...I shipped a fiberglass Bultaco gas tank..it was over $100. I have shipped frames with a local pack & ship company. I took the swingarm off & packed it inside the same box.. it was expensive but I have done it couple times. maybe try shipping swingarm then frame?....

I've used Greyhound bus shipping before. They will ship the frame, but even their prices are creeping up.Check them out.

I have had shipped to me two frames, not lately, more than 5 years ago and they were just wrapped in kind of clear plastic and had a cardboard sheet for the address. The one stll is wrapped that way and has the footpegs on it. UPS. Perhaps they did the print your own label and drop it off at a place that is a drop off site but not a walk in shipping place. It was a fraction of the price you mention. Just for discussion purposes can't promise it will help you out.

Did a USPS clerk tell you that the frame was too big or were you going by the dimensions on their website? I've sent a bunch of frames that I sold on the auction site through the USPS. Almost all of them were too big, but the clerk at my local post office never measures anything. USPS is usually cheapest because UPS charges by dimensional weight.

Just as an odd thought have you thought about trying to contact a trucking company - especially a small or one-man operation? I am a solo operator down here and, as they say, ¨folding green speaks all languages¨. Considering the tough economic times we are living in any sane person would be happy for ANY money coming in. Since it is just going to the next state just look for an outfit that goes there and see what they say. One man operators are more likely to talk cash-in-hand - good for both parties.

Just an idea.

Well the one state away thing is actually a loooong ways! I'm in Oregon and 25 miles from Washington border, Buyer is in Bakersfield California. About as far away as two neighboring states can be! Thanks for the info though.
