• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hey guys just wanted to know regular service costs on you sm/te.

Going to pick up my sm630 up after its first service and power up kit from a dealer in Footscray, melbourne Australia. I also needed some warranty work done ie. Heat shield bolt fell out and I broke the stand bolt. They just rang me and the end price is $795 aud...... That has got to be a joke?!?!?!?!?!?

By power up i meant race mode diode. another dealer quoted $115 as a kit not fitted with gaskets. i figure retail pricing even on the steep side $40 filter $110 oil $115 for the power up. Labour costs, guessing on the expensive side $100 an hour and it taking 3 hours. Which i think is pllllllllllllenty of time to drain oil, stick a new filter on, fill oil, unbolt O2 sensor and stick a plug in. That comes in at around $565.

Not sure about AU prices, but the Power Up kit cost me about $40 US.

I do all my own work; I haven't paid a cent in labor charges.

The most expensive stuff I have had to replace is the final drive (chain, sprockets, sliders, etc) and soon, the cam chain, cam gear and sliders.

Total for secondary drive & cam chain is about $600 US in parts.

What should happen is remove valve cover, check and adjust valves. Sometimes they are fine....no adjustment
Remove O2 sensor and install block and resistor. Safety wire the brass cap used to block hole.
Run iBeat and set TPS and adjust fueling Bike must be warm. Set idle too.
Oil and filter change
Possibly service air filter. Some bike models had restrictive air cages that wouLd be changed out at power up.
Possibly remove throttle stop.
possibly modify or replace exhaust....some remove catalyst if racing... ;)

that does sound expensive! you've allowed them the benefit of the doubt with 3 hours labour which could also include going over the bike, checking all fastners etc. as it's a first service dunno if they go on and check valves etc? i'd give em a call and explain it's a lot more than you were expecting and then see what they say. just be friendly about it as you may find they've done a load of extra stuff...

ok so just checked my service manual. the first (600 mile) service includes valve clearances, ignition timing... in fact the 600 mile service is quite detailed. just make sure they've done it by the book and it's probably about right

Went there and asked them to explain everything on the invoice. for the missing one allen cap screw on the front ex heat shield they said becuase it wasnt checked in pre delivery, thats why it fell out and its not covered by warranty... not covered by warranty becuase the dealer who sold it is a TWAT... :S So they have replaced both the screws on the front shield with inferior phillips head screws that are yellow chromate. They have a smaller head and when they put them in they fucked the phillips drive on the screws and they charged me $10 for the privelidge of having non genuine shitty yellowish phillips drive screws. They also used Shell coolant which isnt a problem but they also used Shell oil even tho there is a sticker on the engine case saying use Motul. Youd expect to take your bike to a dealer and they use all the brands and genuine parts specified by the maker. Its not that i care about paying $10 for two bolts, its the fact that i paid $10 for bolts i didnt want. I work for Wurth and could of got matching bolts or ordered the correct ones my self. If i wanted shit phillips head drive screws that dont match the rest i woud got the thing serviced by a hobo. Im in the middle of writing a letter to Husqvarna now explaining the absolute disgust i have for their dealer network and their lack of customer service. I a still waiting for my books from the selling dealer and a replacment panel that was scratched on pick up after almost 2 months since purchase, not to mention they didnt tell me it was a 2010 build. The bike is fine for what i bought it for but i think more and more often i shouldve just bought a honda or something..... Needless to say I will be doing all the maintenance myself now bar the valve clearances.

I think you are getting ripped off. I bought my TE630 from MotoGC in Thomastown. Power up was done for free before delivery. The mechanic there call C.J. is an honest guy, and knows what he is doing. It cost me less than $200 for all my services so far - which include some warranty work. Don't use the guy called Will - I don't trust him.

It does sound steep. Definitely make them break that bill down to justify it.

All in all i sent a email to Husqvarna themselves and got a swift response from Mark, The national sales manager. He is looking into the missing books and getting the dealer to pull out their finger and is sending me out the proper genuine exhaust shield bolts free of charge from head office.

He has been a godsend compared to the dealers ive delt with.
