  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

?'s about 2009 txc 450

im looking at a brand new 09 txc 450 at the local shop (dont know a whole lot about them) and was wondering if there was anything to look out for. also is it possible to swap te lights onto it? they dont have any 09 te's so i was planning on just turning the txc into one for the most part. i might be mistaken but arent they the same bike besides the lights on them? are the electronics the same ect and about how much this would cost? also what would be a good price to get that thing out the door??? its listed rite at 5grand. thanks in advance for any help you give a newbie

I've got an 08 TE450, which is a very similar bike, and I like it a lot. I think I saw some chatter that Heinen's in Osseo, MN has some Husky's on closeout. You might check around and see if another dealer has some NOS bikes laying around. Depending on your state laws, it might now be very easy to convert a TC to road legal status. In MN, it has gotten very, very difficult.

ah those pesky states always gettin involved lol thanks for the heads up, ill try checkin around more. for the right price itd be worth a weekend trip.

I would make sure you can get a powerup kit with the bike. It's a huge difference in power. I put a bash plate from Up-tite on mine, and it came with a 610 rack, which is useful.

rite on man, still in the initial wanting a new bike stage and waiting on the ol' tax returns to get here..then see if i cant get one closer to what i want to pay

We have the 09 TXC 450 and added lights for occasional dual sport rides. The wiring harness isn't just plug and play, though. I did the wiring and made a custom harness coming off the extra plug under the tank. I suppose you could purchase a TE wiring harness then it would be a bit more plug and play. I also seem to remember a thread about a shop on our site that makes a harness/light kit. For ours, I'd say it probably cost about $500 for the setup (Trailtech light, DRC Edge II taillight, LED blinkers (wouldn't bother with those - they just broke off), rear brake switch, bar switch, turn signal relay, and misc wires/connectors). It would definitely be easier to get the TE!

In OK, they handed a plate right over without even a small objection, but that can be very different from state to state.

Overall, the bike has been bulletproof, and we've tested it pretty well. The bike required some tinkering with the jetting to get rid of obnoxious popping, but that's not really a big deal. The suspension has been my husband's biggest complaint...he just can't ever get it where he wants it.

thanks for the info! theres no 09 te's left at the shop. if nothing else ill just have to do what yall did with the lighting if i get the txc.

Most of us change half the lights on the TE anyway... might as well buy what you plan to actually use. setting up lighting isn't too bad- I think its kind of a fun project actually. There is so much stuff I have taken off my TE that came with it- I paid money for it whether it stayed on the bike or not. I have an box of overflowing "48-state street legal Uselessness" in my garage... But that's because my state is tight with plating bikes.

Their are some significant differences basic and specific between the TE and TCX.
Need a title to plate?- depending on your state then you must get a TE. This is the deciding factor for most. My state WILL NOT give you a plate if it has NO Street Title. If you can "kit" an Mx bike and get a plate in your state- I am jealous... and you might as well get whatever you want... If that's a TXC than go for it!

TXC- has a Keihin 41mm fcr carb, TE has EFI, there are advantages and disadvantages to either. Carbs are pretty easy since most understand them- EFI is easy once you understand the system- but many find each specific EFI system has its differences so prior experience only goes so far from other makes or auto.

TXC/TE have different stators- you can get an upgrade for the TXC from Motosportz and have equivalent to the TE.

TXC has dual cartridge forks- or closed chamber forks, TE has single cartridge forks- or open chamber forks. Closed from my understanding are more complicated to maintain and somewhat tune- but they have more ability to perform and be tuned more specifically.

My understanding is that the 09/10 TXC needs no “power up kit” because it never had a cat, and no EPA stuff to change like the TE. So no pipe to buy- the stock is the Arrow. With the 08- ? maybe you had to buy the separate pipe.

SO check with your buddies who’ve tried to plate a bike- or ask your DOT for sure- I’d get a TXC if my DOT let me- but can’t. Luckily I am VERY happy with my 09TE450.

:thumbsup:can't go wrong.

more great info, thanks for the comparisons!! if everything goes rite ill probly go ahead and get the txc its close to my price range so thats the main deal really. the plate would be mainly for fartin around goin over to my buddies house or running into town or if i geta wild hair to maybe do a enduro one of theese days but im a fairly novice rider so thats a ways down the road either way..i live in the country for the most part so 4 wheelers and dirtbikes on the road are fairly common out here and not hasseled by the cops unless your being stupid. the carb is another reason i was kinda leaning toward the 09 that fi seems to be touchy from what ive read on here...plus unfortunatly here in central illinois you find a 100ft elevation change your doin something hahaha so the difference in elevation i dont think would be all big of a problem. mainly want something dependable to ride in the fields and on trails locally possibly enter into some hare scrambles or something as my skills increase...

Illinois? yea.. I thought they were more layed back than us in WIsconsin. You do need a plate to do enduro's there since they connect propertys using some road. But For some reason you also have MANY MANY KTM 200 2 strokes with Plates in Illinois, (bikes that have a headlight, and brake light, no high beam,no front brake switch, no turn signals, no mirror, no horn, and are not 48-state legal in any regard). I just always wondered if they all took their plates off their Goldwing for the weekend... hahaaa. Any 2 stroke in WI with a plate legitamately was bought from someone who plated it in another state AND you got lucky that DOT was too busy that day to question it... Many have had their plates taken back from WI DOT- not enough digits on the VIN- that's how they tell. So That's why I played it safe... But I thought about Plating a TXC in Michigan and then Plating it in WI... just didn't want to worry about "someday" loosing my plate.

I've done the leaf river dualsport a few times (ForestCity Riders)... which is basically the same as the enduro route...FUN STUFF!

man i wouldnt want to ride a two stroke aon the road for very long at least not this 94 rm i have too damn goosey another reason im wanting to move on to a 4stroke i kinda like to just put aroudn and cruise some now too... leisure riding i guess haha

Phoenix ... Could you tell me which plug you're talkin about on your TXC ?

I've recently purchased an 09 TXC 450 and I'm dual Sporting it also... I've already tagged it here in TN....it has never had lights or Anything yet though ... I've seen one, maybe two empty plugs on this bike...I wondered if One was for a headlight or Rad fan (like the TE's have)

where did you tap into the bike wiring ?

I also found a red wirefolded and capped up front (like it would run up to the handlebars) Does Anyone know what that would go to ?

I also need to see if the charging system is gonna do the job... I'm gonna have all LEDs except headlight ...but the headlight is a 55w low + 55W highbeam

thanks for any info

i had heard both that the stock stator puts out enough for a light system and also that you need to swap to something with more watts...havent gotten into it just yet so not sure man.
