    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Round two of the "other" carb types - Lectron

Next week hopefully , Kevin was awesome to talk to ended up ordering a custom 30mm Lectron for my daughters Kx100. It has the Kehin round slide and I was going to go with a 28 Pwk. After talking about it with Kevin he closed me on a Lectron.
 
First ride report with lectron installed! could not get out to ride any trails today but did try it out in the yard. Bike started in 2 kicks with choke on and after warm-up had to turn idle up. Bike had a nice steady idle but had a slight rich bog off-idle,I leaned out the metering rod 1 turn and it was much better,readjusted the idle speed and tried it out. The results are pretty much what others have said- very good throttle response,no stumbles or bogs,nice off-idle torque feel. The idle quality is much improved over the tmxx as well-very smooth and consistent with no "hanging" idle after snapping the throttle. I could only ride around in first gear in the back-yard but the results so far are very good. After sitting for 15 minutes in freezing temps it was a one -kick start:thumbsup:. Here is my .02 . I got a chance to ride my 2011 Gasgas Ec250 , cut head ,Scalvini exhaust . When I first installed it I was a little bummed , the throttle cable was short , the choke was tough to get to and it ran worse than with my Pwk. I spoke with Kevin about my issues and he gave me some pointers. I followed his recommendations and I could not be more pleased. My bike ran really well with a Rb Pwk , it was just a little more finicky than I cared for. I was very skeptical that these carbs would better than a properly jetted carb .... Boy was I wrong . I ended up leaning mine out 2.5 turns , I kept leaning it out until it started to ring a ding then richened it up a half turn . These carbs just plain rip , I went with the 36 and had a 39 Pwk and this thing pull so much harder it is hard to believe. I also had to run a 50/50 race gas mix before or my bike would pipe bang like crazy , with the Lectron it ran perfect with just super. The low end and midrange is so much better than my modded Pwk there is NO WAY I would have believed it if some one would have told me that. In another post it was mentioned that the power was like a jet just keeps pulling , shift pull , shift etc . That is the perfect way to discribe it , like a turbine or rotary motor .
 
Awesome stuff guys. Glad you all like them. Bikes are so different there is always going to be a few little things to sort, cables, settings etc but the bottom line is there are no jest to buy or plug and once you take a minute to set it up once you are rewarded with the best running ever and no more issues.
 
Update-decided to go and play in the yard some more. I leaned out the metering rod another half turn (now at 1.5 turns leaner than delivered) and it runs even better-even quicker throttle response and off-idle pull. I am leaving the adjustments alone now until I get a good ride in and do a plug reading.by the way,it started with one kick with choke-almost freezing temps.:thumbsup:

When I get home I will have 4 carbs going on fleabay. I don't know about the jets as somebody somewhere will need help. We need to keep these metering rod carbs under the radar for at least another month or so. :D

Ran the bike again today, I decided to lean out the metering rod another 1/4 turn(now out 1 and 3/4 turns from delivered setting). Bike started in one kick with choke(near freezing temps). After letting it warm up for a few minutes I went for a spin around the back yard. Real nice snappy response off-idle and no burbles or bogs. I decided to let the bike idle while I did some yard work and it never missed a beat,with the mikuni it would load-up and slowly die out if left idling for any length of time. After idling for a while I jumped on and rode around and it was dead smooth and responsive.So far I am very happy with the lectron,it has eliminated all the mikuni head-aches I had before:applause:. I am wondering how much further I can lean out the rod as each adjustment leaner has made it even better but I do not want to go too far with-out a real test ride and plug check.(I can only ride in first gear and up to 1/4 throttle in the yard-the fence comes up fast:eek:!)I think we have a definate winner here so far and I only wish I got one sooner(I could have spent more time enjoying the ride instead of swapping brass in the mikuni).:cheers:
 
With the extra power etc that the carb gives, would you imagine any need to change gearing on a given bike?
 
Anybody with a wr 300, does this carb make it an easier bike to start?
Also does this mean when i drop the bike on hill climbs, it will no longer flood and start back up straight away??
 
A well jetted bike should start good regardless of the carb. I really don't think the Lectron makes it start any better than a perfect jetted TMX or PWK. Tim Troffer says it does make his GG 250 start insanely EZ. My 165 starts about the same. Seems to want a little throttle opening. As for flooding I'm sure it still can, not really different than a standard carb in that functionality. I have dropped my bike several times since owning it and never had an issue getting it restarted quickly. Never had an issue with the TMX ether though.
