• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

No, this is not an oil thread hsha
Anyone know if all 3 types are ok for clutch? Rotella t4,5,6?
I use 4 now 15-40w but was wanting to try lighter for winter, like 5-40 or 10-40. Does any of you go lighter in winter? Please no debates or arguing with each other, just want opinions that are conducive to my inquiry

I just switched to Rotella from Mob1 in the 165. Tried T5, but had a lot of clutch drag when hot. Then T6, 1 race and 2 rides and no issues.
Full synthetic oil should flow better in cold temps. Not sure if 0/5/10-40w makes a big difference.

use Rotella T 15-40 like i do?

We have no Rotella here in Spain but I was using 15W50 Mobil Delvac MX and was satisfied with it, never tried an synthetic HDEO..

As long as you don't see the energy conserving label anywhere on the bottle, you will not have any clutch slippage problems. Rotella is a diesel oil, so that's not an issue

T6 is the best out there. It is wet clutch rated. I use it in every thing I own that has a fuel burning 4 stroke engine.

Mobil 1 0W-40 and haven't looked back. Clutch felt better than it ever had before. All my bikes get the Mobil 1 now

NOT having the energy conserving label is the first thing to check for if you want to use any oil in a wet clutch motorcycle. A+ to Zomby woof.

I am not going to join another oil thread...ooops I just did.
I wont say what to use for your 2T gearbox, use what you want.
But I will say I use the very lightest viscosity in my gearbox/clutch all the time and have gone this route since the early 90s. And I just change it often to keep it fresh. (Maxima MTL XL 75wt).
For example for the moment- 1 trail ride and the National Hare and Hound final=oil change. normally I change 150- 200 miles, Rekluse and lots of technical stuff = lots of clutch slipping= heat heat and dirty oil.
I always use moto brand oils from Spectro to Maxima to Motul to Castrol to Belray, but I am a 95% Maxima customer.
Yes I know this is a Rotella thread, just want to throw out the R-accio recipe.
(BTW Rekluse (mine is Core EXP 3) has been known to recommend the use of Rotella)

Hows 75w equate to regular non gear box oils (motor oils) like Rotella.?
Like 10-30 type weight- light?

Similar to a ~10W,15W, or low 20W depending on the Kinematic Viscosity, 75W has a big range so it would be better to compare the actual cSt that you can find at the datasheet of the lubricant.
