    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

250-500cc Ripped FMF Silencer

I called Rocky Mountain and sent them the same photos I posted here. They called back and said the RMATV warranty dept thought FMF wouldn't replace it because they thought it looked like the bike was layed down.

I then called FMF direct and sent them the same photos. They emailed back quickly and said they'd replace the whole silencer. Here's the funny thing: they said I had to "destroy the item " before they would "replace the item" under warranty. They said I could do it at my house and send them photos to prove I destroyed it or send the silencer to them so they could destroy it. So I banged it up with a lump hammer in several spots and sent FMF the photos.

I'm on day 2 waiting for a tracking number on their shipment. Hopefully I wasn't "had".

That sounds like the US Border patrol and there many vehicles. I used to cut the quad frames up into little pieces or in quarters anyway as they wouldn't allow these items to be deadlined and get sold to the general public as they never really had a title there entire life. They saved very few if any parts. I've even disassembled 100% good saddles from the Horse Patrol Unit and then photograph them taken apart and throw them out to prove they were no longer in service. Many of the "Chevy Tahoe's" and many of the "Duramax" truck frames too. Of course there the only ones we have fracture cracks in, all over the place, The front sway bar mounts on the "Tahoe's" get tore right off and we now hand fabricate new ones in a jig. I've welded new fabricated ones on both sides on over 230 of them in our Tucson Sector Fleet alone in the last 2 years. Every single one from our station and several from 2 other stations that trucked them over to have this modification done.

Every single one of the Tahoe's in our fleet has also been beefed up and welded around the front body outrigger mounts that always crack and haven't had another crack in them yet. They used to change out the entire frames and would have the vehicle up and running again in less than 3 days. With just one Tech doing this and one more about half the time helping. Before they used to have new frames stacked 3 high in the parking lot. We only occasionally do a frame swap now, If I make the call to deadline them for there own safety this only happens when I notice when welding on them and thoroughly inspecting other known areas that crack too doing further inspections. I see that they have too many other cracked and damaged areas to warrant further repairs this happens before they even have 20,000 miles on every one. cracks that is and sway bar mounts. The vehicle is done at 60 to 70,000 miles. We had reps from Chevy Ford and Dodge come out here and go for a ride down the Border Road which is groomed and dragged with tire drags so they can see footprints twice a day at least and they all went back to Detroit and said our vehicles aren't designed for what you do with them. They told us to read the fine print on the TV commercials! The "Ford Raptors" do hold up pretty well but they get babied and they were given to us to test by Ford so we didn't pay for them.

Every single "Duramax" diesel truck we had vibrated into so many cracks they looked like a fricken road map. I wouldn't touch them POS's. The garage had to have the frames changed completely out at least 2 to 3 times on each truck. Yes I said 3 times each nearly before they got rid of them because of the vibrations and sitting idling all day. Or I caged them up into war wagons and let them sit out on the line itself and get rocked all day as they just fell apart 4 wheeling them. We still have Chevy 2500 pickups but they are all gas powered. No more diesels. They are still POS's. front shock towers get stuffed right out of them and the rear shock mounts get ripped right off the housings I make new ones for them also and have a template and a bending jig.

Yes we have plenty of "Dodges" and "Fords" too. I've only welded on 2 "Dodges" frames in 9 years and no "Fords" yet, unless I was building myself a new welding truck. I'm on my 4th truck myself in 9 years and about due for another one in a year or so and my truck only has 34,000 miles on it.

I just welded an $834.00 dollar rear torsion axle in one of our horse trailers today. Lift the tail end up about chest high on the 2 post lift and the other end with a forklift on the fifth wheel hitch. Use some tall big screw jacks to level it and take some measurements Center to center and cut the other one out because of a chingered spindle and let it fall on a transmission lift table and butter it up a bit and weld the new one back in. 5 hour job.

What I'm rambling on about is all and any "Off Road" stuff goes to shit and that's that.

Get the new one and use the rear mount only and see what happens.

I'm now on day 3 waiting to hear from them!

I'm hoping they have to fab it assuming these bikes aren't popular for them to keep in stock.
 
Still no replacement pipe from FMF. They basically told me it will be fab' d whenever it gets fab'd. I guess that's the penalty for not having a common bike. The estimated date for shipping is Aug 19th.

On another subject, can somebody please take a picture from the rear of their bike (09 vintage WR250) with the right side panel removed?

I'd like to see the angle of the tabs on the subframe that support the silencer. I'm curious if my tabs are bent and if that led to the silencer failure.

My 13 F150 4x4 is still rolling at 75k miles. It's probably got about 10k off road. But then again I try to be careful with it because I need a reliable work truck and it's not even 2 years old yet.

So I have no confidence that FMF will send me a silencer anytime soon. Now they tell me to wait 30-45 days from now but that doesn't really mean anything. They've told me that already. They say a QStealth for my bike is not popular and they have no idea when any more will be fab'd. Said they make maybe 25 per year. They have more important models to make 1st.

I said send me one from a distributor. They said they can't because distributors probably don't have them either.

I said ok, have one of the dealers that sell FMF stuff send me one. That seemed to be a foreign concept to them. I sent them links to places that show them in stock like RMATV and others. Haven't heard back from them on that yet.

I said ok, how about sending me some kind of refund or credit towards buying one elsewhere. Said they'd look into it.

I rather not buy a new one if I'll eventually receive one somehow from FMF.

So I can ride my bike sometime soon, does anybody have a used stock or aftermarket silencer they're willing to sell for an 09 WR250?

They told you to destroy a silencer they won't replace and bail on you. Why not just get a turbine core 2 for now?

I'm waiting on FMF because I don't want to buy a brand new one and then eventually get another new one sent to me under the warranty.

I'll check eBay.

In case there is a pro circuit, is it true the pc needs the pc pipe to match up to their silencer? Won't work with an FMF pipe?
 
+1. Pro Circuit has short stinger off the chamber and the silencer has a long extension to connect.
