  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Replace 449/511 airbox with K&N RU-0990

That would be me. I am fabricating the dual pipes this weekend. Should have it welded during the week (is the plan).

Also read on smj you only had 40 miles on your bike . You have not dropped any oil on your valve cover yet from your breather ? I see a-lot of extra room for a breather box to mount in the airbox area with this intake mod... Also should gain a couple horsepower . Mine does 47 rwhp with no airfilter, 44 with.

If you want to send me something, then I will not complain ;-), but it is not necessary. You could however buy my dual exhaust after I am done lol. I posted the parts in the link, but here they are again. I do not stock these, so it only wastes money for me to order then ship to you. However, if you need for me to drill the hole for the Air Intake Temp sensor and shave down your sensor, I could do that for the the $40 and send it to you. If that is the case, check your PM for my contact info.

Looks awesome mate! Id love to open my airbox up like that! My 11te511 was tuned to a healthy 53.6rwhp! With Full akro, PCV and Unopened airbox.

Do you reckon the K&N would fit in the airbox? For when i chuck dirt trim back on?

Actually I bet it would. You may have to open the inlet hole on the airbox is all. This bike should never see dirt, so I am not concerned about that. I also have a stock 510 tank arriving soon. I am going to attempt to cut the tank in half and "stretch over the 511 frame, fiberglass it and make a mold, so I can build a 510 tank onto my 511 and have almost 6 gallons of fuel. About another 15 pounds of weight, but I am mainly street riding on this thing, so not a big deal. I have the OEM airbox, I will put a mic on the OD of the silicon and the ID of the inlet and let you know.

Just worried about the crank case breather, as i thought that worked for the crankcase vaccum?
 
That K&N is too small. I posted a link in another thread using a vortex, but it will require hot air shielding.

According to the K&N spec sheet, the RU-0990 flows 318 CFM @ 1.5” of H₂O

I calculate that our engine consume 73CFM @ 8,400 RPM @ 100% VE.

And what does "I posted a link in another thread" do to help this discussion :-P. At least URL it up man lol. I should be writing code and not perusing the forums as it is -- definitely no time for searching threads during the day.

Find a local sheet metal welder / fabricator (Aluminum boat builders are good at this stuff) and have a cool all aluminum tank built. Might be cheaper and a lot less work and be uber cool.

449 (TE449) is 0.015856ft cubic feet x 8400rpm = 133.19

right?

WFO on these has to be closer to 10K or so no? Lets use 11,000 rpm

449 (TE449) is 0.015856ft cubic feet x 11000rpm = 174.41 CFM

BUT intake stroke is only every other time so would we not divide by two on all these? Regardless if the math is right and that filter really flows 318 CFM is should be twice whats needed. By the numbers anyway.

Correct, divide by two. I did 489CC though, so my number was a bit higher (wishful thinking). I personally spoke with a tech at K&N about the flows of their filters. Their filters support air flow, period. I had an air filter roughly 4 times larger than this supporting 600rwhp on my 1994 Toyot Supra running 22 pounds of boost on a T64 turbo...and the limiting factor on that was injector size. I could not supply enough fuel to go over 22 pounds.

I am still really hoping to get 60+ rwhp out of this motor, but may be disappointed. I did look at the Aprilia SXV5.5 for the beast it is. But things worked out that I have the 511 (and decently happy with it after putting only 35 miles on it -- before I took it apart -- and drove my wife crazy because there are two new bikes under the knife in the garage).
