  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Removing Water Pump Seal

I had slightly milky oil and according to everyone this would be caused by the blue water pump seal going bad (the one right behind the impeller). I have the water pump out but i can figure out how to remove the seal. Anyone have any advice?

Ok so I got the pump apart and replaced the seal. It everything back together and the oil is still slightly molly. Any one have any advice on where to go from here. I apreciate the help so far. Im getting desperate trying to figure this out. :(
 
Yes changed the oil since then. Am I forgetting any special steps for replacing the seal? There is just one right? Oil still milky and now considering trade down for head gasket replacment
 
Before you tear anything down. Is there any sign of oil in the radiator or coolant. The easy test for coolant entering the crankcase: Any auto shop has a device that they put on the radiator in place of the radiator cap, if the liquid in the device changes color while the bike is running this is a sure sign you are getting exhaust gasses into the cooling system. This indicates a blown head gasket without having to tear down the motor.

Take the rad cap off with the engine cold. Start the bike and look for bubbling. If it's bubbling(different from swirling or churning) its probably a sign of bad head gasket.

Otherwise do you see any "white" smoke emitting from the exhaust when running?
 
Thank you both for the help so far. Yes the coolant is brownish from its original perfectly clear state(evans waterless). I have been slowly pulling the bike apart and rebuilding parts but haven't touched the engine. Im going to try the color test thing you were talking about. Where should I go from here??

I'm having similar 'water in the crankcase' currently with my 08 TXC250... Here is what I'm seeing after removing the propeller ..

I used an arbor press and a smaller deep socket as the tool to press out the old seal.

I've got to replace my water pump seal again ... :( ... Last time I pulled the shaft out of engine that the seal is on, I ended up getting the bike out of time as that same water pump shaft also has the timing gear on it ...

If you removed the shaft from the engine, how did you keep the engine in time and how did you get the water pump shaft back into the engine? This was all a real pain to me last time and apparently I did not do such a good job at it either ...
