  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

removing engine from frame

09 510 smr. i have my engine ready to pull from the frame, but didnt drive the rear engine/swingarm bolt out. the bike is on stand, im doing this alone and the rear shock is still in place. when i drive the bolt out is it going to drive the swingarm and im going to have my hands full catching an engine and keep the bike on the stand, or will nothing move? thanks

I have not taken a 510 apart, or a huskey for that matter but I have always removed the rear sub frame, tire and shock. I cant imagine wrestling the weight of the rear tire and swing arm from the swing arm bolt alone... I bought a used RMZ250 for my son and had to replace the swing arm because I think the guy did this and broke the bearing sleeve.. I figure he forced it in sideways or it could have happened when he took the bolt out and the weight of the tire over rotated it into the frame or both.. this hole bike looked like this.. see pic below, its the one on the left. The one on the right is what happen when you don't replace your chain slider. I ordered that one on ebay, they said it was in "like new condition"

so in my opinion take the extra time and remove tire and shock at least

Take the opportunity to grease up your linkage bearings and swingarm bearings while you are at it.

If you put the bike on a stand or box, remove the rear wheel and the linkage bolt, the swingarm will just pull out and back easily. No reason to remove the subframe or shock. Then grab the head and tilt it out towards the left side and the engine will easily come out. If you don't want any scratches in the frame, place rags along the bottom rails.
